  1. I knew this afternoon that Fiona was tired and couldn't fight the cancer anymore. I was going to schedule the vet appointment today but she passed away on her own bed around 2:30 this morning. My princess always did things her own way.

  2. Maybe I should put this in cute and funny but you all have been talking me through Fiona's poor appetite issues due to cancer so I put it here.

Yesterday I bought a beautiful strawberry short cake. You know the one, angel food cake layered with whipped cream and strawberries. We left it until evening to enjoy while watching TV. I put the cake on the dining room table and went to the kitchen for my pot of tea. I came back into the dining room just in time to see Her Highness Fiona with her nose buried in whipped cream :lol

Of course I couldn't get upset, I was just happy to see her getting into trouble again.

  3. Oh boy. I've been there.

After pages and pages of suggestions.

This is what Polli would eat when not eating due to chemo.

Tripett. If you want to try it, I will over night a 2 cans to you. But please let me know ASAP.

Thanks so much for the offer Robin. Right now the sardines are doing the trick when nothing else will.

Weird thing is that Sammie the mutt is on prescription food for her kidneys. The vet warned me that a lot of dogs don't like the prescription food and (after happily eating it for several months) for the past two days Sammie has been leaving a lot of her kibble at breakfast.

And just who do you think runs over and eats the prescription food that most dogs don't like? Oh yes, it is my Fiona. I swear they just try to make me crazy.

  4. Fiona was diagnosed with Lymphoma a little over 2 months ago. She is on a regimen of prednisone and lukeran on alternate days. Her appetite has been waning a bit lately but over the past few days she won't eat her kibble she just picks out the extras from the bowl.

For a while she would eat the cheap dog food (looks like ground beef) so I mixed some with her regular kibble and boiled chicken or other meat. Lately she won't eat that either. Last night she ate 1 hot dog so I made more but she refused them.

This morning she had 2 hot dogs and some ground beef. She left all her kibble in the bowl. We have some sardines in the cupboard so will try that this evening. She won't eat rice or pasta; it seems too bland to tempt her.

I need some ideas please. I don't really care if she doesn't want kibble but I need her to eat something more that the occasional hot dog.

  5. I previously posted that Fiona has been diagnosed with Lymphoma. I do not want to put her through an aggressive chemo treatment and we started her on prednisone and Leukeran. This weekend the nodes under her jaw became enlarged and she is off her food now. I fear that the current protocol is not slowing the cancer much.

I have been corresponding with OSU and they recommend the COP protocol which is less aggressive and they indicate that Fi could tolerate it well with hope of some remission.

I need input form anyone who has tried this approach rather that the other protocols.
