  1. well, hydrogen peroxide probably isn't the best thing to put on them unless you dilute it. I prefer Bandaid Anti bacterial wash - it's got pain reliever in it.

But, yeah, if there isn't any skin to stitch together then there's nothing the vet can do that you can't (except clean it out even more). I would probably put some no stick gauze pads and some rolled gauze on (to hold the gauze pad on) then cover it with a baby sock, but other than that I think you're good.

Oh, forgot to add, keep an eye on his feet for any infection. If you see that, go to the vet.

  2. Beans was on PPA (generic Proin) for a little while. I only gave him 1/4 tab twice a day - not the recommended 2 tabs!! He took it really well for roughly 2 weeks. Then he started to refuse it. We'd keep him off it for a week, then back on for a while, then refusing it again. This went on for about 2 months. I started thinking that he doesn't refuse ANYTHING (even dried black beans - he tries to eat them) so it can't be good that he's refusing a beef flavored treat. So we decided to just deal with belly bands for the leakage. After a while with the belly bands he completely stopped leaking!

If it was my dog, I wouldn't give it again based on what I saw. But, every dog is different and reacts to meds differently.

  3. Stoney split one of his back toe nails, not in half but about an 1/8th off the very outside of the nail. It's bleeding (though it seems to have stopped now), but I'm more worried about the split ripping further.

Any suggestions? Should I just tape it up?

Stoney thanks you for the least painful option to his precious little tootsies!

  4. I'm so glad he's ok!

I've done the same thing before, in fact, the other night Beans (who loves the snow) gave me a scare when he didn't come running up the stairs like usual. Turns out he was just sniffing around the grill (probably looking for lost bits of food :lol) - and man was he unhappy that I made him stop! But he sure did freak me out.

  5. Stoney was diagnosed and treated for it before we got him (he was at the kennel for a while) so I don't know what the side effects were.

I can tell you that he doesn't really act any different than any other greyhound I've ever met! He's goofy, gets into trouble, loves ear rubbies, has diarreah occassionally (usually coinsides with his counter surfing exploits...) and has not - in general - ever shown any signs of being sick.

We will probably re titer him with in the next year or two just to monitor his levels.

  6. If this pup *is* crying out due to muscle spasms, it there something that could be causing her to have so many lately? Would it be a dietary thing or time for a vet check?

I'm clueless here but following this thread in hopes of learning. And I hate to hear about a houndie hurting..

Good question. Maybe if she *is* having muscle cramps it's because she's cold? I know that when my feet get too cold, they cramp and THAT makes me want to scream the GSOD!

My boys run, bark, growl, roo, 'cry', woof softly, whine and have screamed suddenly during the night - and absolutely nothing is PHYSICALLY wrong with them (though, I can't guarantee that there's nothing MENTALLY wrong with them - crazy knuckleheads!).
