  1. Sending prayers for Lola.
  2. Glad it's nothing. Hope Sophie's chemo goes well on Wednesday. Snickers is scheduled for Tuesday. I've got my fingers crossed that the girls don't have any reaction.
  3. I have been right where you are very recently. I'm so sorry that you are facing this. I hope it's something you've caught early and can deal with. My Snickers is just five too -- some how it just doesn't seem fair or even possible.
  4. Cheering for Alan's progress! He looks like he's ready to give it his best.
  5. Oh Alicia, I'm so sorry to hear this. God speed sweet Lilah
  6. Thinking and praying for you and Lilah.
  7. I bet it's hard when you're right in the middle of all this and stressed out about his eating and mood too, but Alan does look much better than the first videos. It's amazing how they adapt physically and mentally. I hope his hydrotherapy helps. I'll be praying for Alan. He's made great progress!!
  8. I really wish I could read about the medical history of my pups. In particular, it'd be helpful to know if Cricket suffered from any symptoms/injuries during her career. She has unspecified spinal cord disease -- I've always wondered if she exhibited any symptoms during her career, or if she had an injury. It'd be helpful info for the vets who treat the retired racers.
  9. Your pictures and puppies are adorable. I wouldn't panic about the tick. Do you use Fronline? If you do, more than likely it would kill the tick before there was time to transmit anything. Was the tick you took from her head bloated? Also what was the size/type of tick? I'm not sure about incubation periods, but if the tick wasn't at all bloated it probably didn't have a chance to have a meal yet.
  10. Rather than resurrecting the old thread, I thought I'd start a new one to update what's been happening with Snickers. After serious massages of her neck and back on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, she seems to be much more comfortable. Once in a while she'll yelp if you go to pat her or just randomly, but thank doG it's much better. She went for a walk at her favorite place several times this week and saw another greyhound friend Roxy too, which helped her spirits. I took her completely off the Tramadol since she was still yelping on that. Now she's very snuggly and will stand next to me wanting endless snugglings. She's so sweet. I've also seen a little hint of her kooky whirly tail and she snockled (Snicker kissed) me all over the face when I got her leash out for a walk today. Her littermate Cricket has been incredibly empathetic to her and is constantly at her side. It's so heartening to see some of her personality return. Phew. I was really feeling very upset because I couldn't help her and she seemed so miserable. I know we've got more bumps on this road, but I think we made it through the first major one. She went to our local vet this morning to have her blood drawn to check WBC count and liver values since it's 10 days since the chemo. Everyone there was happy to see her doing so well. I hope everything is good news. I love my Snickles. Edited to add: Thank you Gters for your kind words, thoughts and prayers. It means a lot.
  11. I'm very sad to read your update. You really tried to do all you could for Beck, even switching vets. Your new vet sounds very nice and it's a great sign that he was willing to research.
  12. I suggest this too. If there's something causing inflammation, it will at least make him comfortable and minimize any pain if he's in any. I'd also check into a neurologist and see if you can get an estimate of the charges before you start and see if it's in your budget. Just a consult may not be outrageous and he/she might be able to pinpoint more accurately what's going on. I hope Beck's better soon!
  13. I think you're doing the right thing. If the new vet confirms everything, then you know how to proceed, but it sounds like your gut instinct is telling you to look for better answers. I hope you get everything straightened out and your pup in good health! Good luck.
  14. That stinks. They should try to expedite the results for you. Sending prayers!
  15. I was told to go ahead and feed Snickers, but you should double check with them. They gave me Reglan, an anti-nausea medication, to help her if she felt nauseous. I gave it to her that morning and with each meal for a few days following chemo. Good luck to Sophie!
  16. I echo those who suggest Metacam -- it's supposed to be easier on the dog. Snickers was on Metacam before her amputation and considering how painful bone cancer is supposed to be, it did a good job alleviating her pain.
  17. Good for Winslow! He looks so proud of himself. What a great mom he has, to do all this for him.
  18. Thanks for thinking of Snickers. You saw us at a really scarey point. She was seeping blood from her good leg and it was swollen like a husky's leg. The two girls who lifted her out of the car said something to each other that her leg was possibly broken in multiple places. I was freaking out, thinking that her good leg had bone cancer too and that was the end of Snickers! I usually am chattier and love talking to every greyhound owner I see. Do you go to GPA-NH reunions? They have a special fair this year instead of the reunion, but depending on how everyone is, I might attend it. Did you get all three of your greys from GPA NH? Snickers was "Tricia", a broken-legged girl. We adopted her two years ago in August. Sorry your girl has the brain disease -- she was very sweet and pretty. It is heart-wrenching to hear the screaming. Does she see Dr. Troxel? Believe it or not, Snickers's littermate, Cricket, is a patient of his. She has spinal cord disease of unspecified origin. We've had a rough year medically, particularly for such young dogs. (five 1/2) Snickers is okay today, although she had a rough night last night. I've been massaging her neck and back at every opportunity today and it seems to be helping. It's so hard to tell, but she's become quite a Velcro girl, leaning up against me to get her neck rubbed. I tried to send you a private message, but you have to post more messages! This board is a great source of support and information.
  19. Oh I feel for you and Mia. I hope they figure out what's up so they can get her better and she can come home.
  20. Cricket had a lot of trouble when she first had what has been diagnosed as "spinal cord disease" by a vet neurologist. It takes a little while for the steroids to work. I can see his left rear has the neurological deficit at this point. Hopefully some of the infllammation will subside and he'll regain sensation there. Cricket is still a little off in the back -- she sinks when she stands still for while, almost as if she doesn't realize what her legs are doing. But, she can climb stairs and run in a hopping fashion and it hasn't stopped her from enjoying life at all. At one point, you could turn her paw upright and she wouldn't right it either, just like Alan she'd just drag it. It's because they can't feel anything. Alan doesn't look too bad. I bet he'll surprise you and figure out how to copmpensate until things hopefully improve. Using a sling or a harness helps a lot too. Hang in there. It's really difficult at first. We've found that using a strong food incentiive like chicken crack (the dried chicken) as an incentive helps Cricket's motivation to try new things.
  21. Snickers has been getting lots of massages! From what I can observe, she screams when she first stands up or within a few moments of doing so. I touched the muscles running along her spine this afternoon and they seemed very tight. So Miss Snickers got a nice long massage and hopefully that will help loosen them up. She certainly likes the massages. If it's just something like tight muscles, I should be able to help her through this. I hope it's as simple as this. Thanks everyone. I really appreciate the advice and caring from everyone and I'm sure Snickers does too. Thanks Robin for sending me the massage flier!
  22. Prayers for Mia. for her Mom. It must be very hard for you.
  23. More prayers for Alan and hugs for his family.
