Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. I always get nervous but when they get to be 13......wish she didn't need one but she has to have one.
-
How many are you giving her? Anyone giving a product with MSM -- do not give with pred
My guys are on a maintenance dose of 6 per day. For a severe problem, I do 10-12 per day for a week than try & scale back.
-
I have not read the entire thread, but have you had an ultrasound of the kidneys?
-
Fresh Factors is different, so you are not comparing like products. Fresh Factors has chondroitin (from bovine, not shark). They are tablets and most dogs will eat them as treats.
Be careful if you do use MSM that you stop it if you have to give prednisone for any reason.
I personally have not seen any result from glucosamine but have from Fresh Factors.

I usually double the dose for a week if there is a dog with a problem. You should see a difference within a week. Maintenance dose with my seniors is usually 6 per day.
juliemac: on ocassion I have one who will not eat them. Push come to shove, I powder them and mix with canned and they will eat it.

I used it for Taylor. The results backed up what I had surmised. Some were a surprise. For the price, you can't beat it -- gives you a starting point. the only other one I've used is Vari Gold which is probably the next step to see how good the home/inexpensive one is!

I know how you feel Remind yourself that at least he went on in love, which is more than he would have had. Sending my sympathy

Sending my deepest sympathy Thank you for sharing him with us. He's such a gorgeous guy

The dog should be returned. It is not a time in the owner's life to have a dog. This is going to happen again and the only one suffering is the dog.

Unless there is an injury I don't supplement until they are 7 or 8. Then I use fresh factors by springtime Inc. Chondroitin made from bovine. Do NOT use a product made we shark cartridge. Can cause heart problems

If you do the new surgery, there is a good chance she will blow out the other leg. Look around for a good vet that does the old surgery. Price is better and the it's just as good.
-
Obviously you have to get a reliable diagnosis before you can choose treatment whether it's surgery or ? I would have the results read by a specialist for a second opinion.
His is not that old!

Metamucil if he'll eat it in canned food? I don't know about dogs, but in people (especially children with CF) you can do a type of pattern therapy to help loosen the phlegm called chest percussion. Of course he should talk to the vet before starting:

Sending prayers! I didn't know he had swelling. You know how much I love this guy

Acidophilus ever day will help
Are this episodes connected to hw preventative or topical application of flea meds?

Laser with the specialist -- much easier on her. Is it possible that some of the hypertension is due to the pain of it rubbing? Is it possible she has a "sick thyroid" and that is throwing off the eating and making her nervous?

If the dog is healthy except for the teeth, do it! If you don't, heart disease and kidney disease can develop. This is one of those "dam*ned if you and dam*ned if you don't things.
If they have a lot of extractions, you can do canned for several days and/or soak the kibble.

Most senior foods fit the bill if the phosphorus level is good. SD k/d smells like bunny farts. I haven't had one dog that would eat it.
My Larry is on a low protein/phos diet for many years. He only get 5 level tablespoons of hamburger or meat chunks twice a day. That equals about 1/4 cup. He also gets oatmeal, white rice, veggies, and supplements. If you are interested, I can give you the detailed diets.
Many good diets that will help the issues. The new thought is it's not the protein at all but the phosphorus.
Does she need a dental bad?
