Still wet behind the ears

Still wet behind the ears (3/9)

  1. So do you feed your dogs any kibble or all home cooked? We are still working on figuring out a workable diet. He’d been doing well on kibble with Olewo carrots. Then he had another round of diarrhea which coincided with adding a dental chew (which we stopped). We had recently treated hookworms and received a negative results. However we gave the vet another stool sample the other day and are awaiting results. If it’s negative again we will re-focus on figuring out what he can and cannot eat!
  2. Thank you! I hope your spring weather comes soon and that snow is brief!
  3. Thanks for your response as well! We had started the carrots a few weeks ago and once on Olewo he was doing great. It was quite the transformation. Then all of a sudden, we're back to not so great. So we may try adding Slippery Elm, and of course, retesting him since he's a recent rescue and hookworms were definitely an issue when we got him. (We also have read a lot about greyhound poop so we are also changing our expectations of what normal looks like!)
  4. I just put a few photos of my pup on Imgur so I could upload here. I'm not sure I'm doing this right! Is this is how I create a member album and can I add this to my profile? Thanks!
  5. I know this is a post from two years ago, but I'm trying to figure out whether Slippery Elm and Olewo carrots can be given in the same meal? After recovering from hookworms, and also medical treatment for diarrhea, our pup was doing great in terms of poops. Then, all of a sudden, we're back to loose poops and some diarrhea again, with no change to diet. We will be back in touch with the vet, but in the meantime, I'm curious on experience with combining Slippery Elm and Olewo carrots in the diet. Thanks!
  6. Thanks. I have ordered the Olewo carrots which are different than what I currently have. Mine are more like grated / small chunks of carrots, and when rehydrated they don't form the pudding as you describe. We are also adding a probiotic to his diet. Appreciate all the suggestions here for helping a dog with a sensitive digestive track!
  7. We are having similar issues with our recently adopted pup Elliott. He was treated for hookworms and is now on the metronidizol. We want to add the carrots, but the rehydrated carrots don't form a mush (so to speak), but stay flaky. What should the consistency of the carrots be? From reading this thread I think I'm looking for the consistency of something a bit mushier? Thanks!
