  1. I was not able to see the link. Also how do I directly PM you?
  2. I can’t find how to private message anyone. Can someone please let me know how to reply to a persons post or private message them. Thanks
  3. My big male greyhound fell while running and badly bruised his spinal cord and lost the use of his hind legs. We are having a very difficult time finding a back end harness that fits a greyhound. The harness either digs into the underside of his delicate skin around the leg area or they cover up his private area and don’t allow him to pee. Has anyone had any luck with a comfortable harness for their hound?
  4. I adopted my 5th greyhound 2 months ago only to discover that he has severe noise phobia. Fireworks, thunder, gun shots or any loud noise. He can sense a storm coming several hours before it arrives. He will refuse to go outside before and several hours after a noise event. He has held his pee for 12+ hours due to his fear. Once he is in this state of mind he also will growl and snap at us if we get too close. My vet just gave me trazadone to try and I tried it for the first time yesterday and it did seem to make him sleepy. We are expecting thunderstorms almost everyday this week now so another stressful week ahead of us. The July 4th holiday was terrible for him. He is majorly affected by these events before, during and after. The rescue group suggested a behavioral trainer but finding a greyhound savvy one will be almost impossible where I live. He is the only dog presently in the house as I lost 2 hounds in 2020. Any help with this would be appreciated.
  5. I need some advise. This is a two part question. My 11 year old male greyhound was diagnosed 1 1/2 years ago with chronic kidney disease and since being diagnosed he has been holding steady. His most recent trip to the vet was due to an tooth abscess and he was given antibiotics which he has responded well to but due to his badly receded gum line my vet has suggest a full mouth extraction. I have brushed his teeth faithfully but I’m losing the battle. I know greyhounds are notorious for bad teeth but has anyone ever had a full mouth extraction done on their grey? The second concern and my biggest concern of mine is having him put under anesthesia with already having kidney disease. I know greyhounds in general are sensitive to anesthesia plus the fact that anesthesia is hard on the kidneys. Sent from my iPad
  6. The pancreatitis induced by prednisone is what my vet and the internist told me. I have also read in several articals that prednisone can cause pancreatitis in dogs. When Colby was on prednisone she did really well and that was at a very low dose of 5mg every other day but I was instructed to take her off the prednisone.
  7. I use welactin but only at 1/2 strength because a few months ago she developed pancreatitis thought to be cause by prednisone that she was on at the time. I never tried the vetridisc.
  8. Colby is on gabapentin, methocarbamol and galliprant which help but there are days where she needs a little more. Just saw a neurologist at Penn Vet and I am going to try rehabilitation therapy too. I have heard that CBD oil may be helpful along with her current medication.
  9. I would like to try CBD oil on my 6 1/2 year old hound for neck issues but there are so many brands to choose from. I know Im looking for purity and THC free but they all claim to be the best. I have googled Canna pet, ElleVet, HempRx Forte, and Innovet. Im reaching out to other hound owners that may have used CBD oil for their fur baby.
  10. Had to take Colby to ER vet yesterday, for some reason her neck pain had gotten suddenly worse. We talked about making an appointment with a neurologist at University of Pennsylvania and possibly an MRI. The ER doctor upped her gabapentin to 300mg 3x a day, methocarbamol 750mg 3x a day and added in amantadine 150mg 1x a day and continuing with the daily dose of galliprant. Taking her off the tramadol as it was not doing anything for her. Has anyone had a good response with amantadine?
  11. Spoke with my vet said I can add back in the gabapentin, 100 or 200mg twice a day. If this don't help, then we have to result to an MRI. From what I read an MRI can take anywhere from 1 to 2 hours which concerns me because she would have to be sedated during the test. Has anyone here have experience with their hound being sedated for an MRI?
  12. I will talk to the vet about putting her back on the gabapentin to see if it helps.
  13. I was giving Colby 100mg of gabapentin three times a day. We only had X-rays done which didn't show anything. Our next step is an MRI at a cost of $3,000, which I am assuming since the there is inflammation that keeps coming back once off the steroids that we may be dealing with an issue that would require very expensive surgery. We are also dealing with another senior hound with kidney disease. Between the two of them I spent $3,000 in one week between blood tests, ultrasounds, vet visits and medication. I love my hounds dearly and I will do everything possible for them.
  14. Today is day 2 on the galliprant and I'm not seeing any improvement.
  15. Just gave Colby her first dose of galliprant this morning, if it is going to work for her when should I expect to see some improvement?
