  1. I was not able to see the link. Also how do I directly PM you?
  2. I can’t find how to private message anyone. Can someone please let me know how to reply to a persons post or private message them. Thanks
  3. My big male greyhound fell while running and badly bruised his spinal cord and lost the use of his hind legs. We are having a very difficult time finding a back end harness that fits a greyhound. The harness either digs into the underside of his delicate skin around the leg area or they cover up his private area and don’t allow him to pee. Has anyone had any luck with a comfortable harness for their hound?
  4. I adopted my 5th greyhound 2 months ago only to discover that he has severe noise phobia. Fireworks, thunder, gun shots or any loud noise. He can sense a storm coming several hours before it arrives. He will refuse to go outside before and several hours after a noise event. He has held his pee for 12+ hours due to his fear. Once he is in this state of mind he also will growl and snap at us if we get too close. My vet just gave me trazadone to try and I tried it for the first time yesterday and it did seem to make him sleepy. We are expecting thunderstorms almost everyday this week now so another stressful week ahead of us. The July 4th holiday was terrible for him. He is majorly affected by these events before, during and after. The rescue group suggested a behavioral trainer but finding a greyhound savvy one will be almost impossible where I live. He is the only dog presently in the house as I lost 2 hounds in 2020. Any help with this would be appreciated.
  5. I need some advise. This is a two part question. My 11 year old male greyhound was diagnosed 1 1/2 years ago with chronic kidney disease and since being diagnosed he has been holding steady. His most recent trip to the vet was due to an tooth abscess and he was given antibiotics which he has responded well to but due to his badly receded gum line my vet has suggest a full mouth extraction. I have brushed his teeth faithfully but I’m losing the battle. I know greyhounds are notorious for bad teeth but has anyone ever had a full mouth extraction done on their grey? The second concern and my biggest concern of mine is having him put under anesthesia with already having kidney disease. I know greyhounds in general are sensitive to anesthesia plus the fact that anesthesia is hard on the kidneys. Sent from my iPad
  6. The pancreatitis induced by prednisone is what my vet and the internist told me. I have also read in several articals that prednisone can cause pancreatitis in dogs. When Colby was on prednisone she did really well and that was at a very low dose of 5mg every other day but I was instructed to take her off the prednisone.
  7. I use welactin but only at 1/2 strength because a few months ago she developed pancreatitis thought to be cause by prednisone that she was on at the time. I never tried the vetridisc.
  8. Colby is on gabapentin, methocarbamol and galliprant which help but there are days where she needs a little more. Just saw a neurologist at Penn Vet and I am going to try rehabilitation therapy too. I have heard that CBD oil may be helpful along with her current medication.
  9. I would like to try CBD oil on my 6 1/2 year old hound for neck issues but there are so many brands to choose from. I know Im looking for purity and THC free but they all claim to be the best. I have googled Canna pet, ElleVet, HempRx Forte, and Innovet. Im reaching out to other hound owners that may have used CBD oil for their fur baby.
  10. Had to take Colby to ER vet yesterday, for some reason her neck pain had gotten suddenly worse. We talked about making an appointment with a neurologist at University of Pennsylvania and possibly an MRI. The ER doctor upped her gabapentin to 300mg 3x a day, methocarbamol 750mg 3x a day and added in amantadine 150mg 1x a day and continuing with the daily dose of galliprant. Taking her off the tramadol as it was not doing anything for her. Has anyone had a good response with amantadine?
  11. Spoke with my vet said I can add back in the gabapentin, 100 or 200mg twice a day. If this don't help, then we have to result to an MRI. From what I read an MRI can take anywhere from 1 to 2 hours which concerns me because she would have to be sedated during the test. Has anyone here have experience with their hound being sedated for an MRI?
  12. I will talk to the vet about putting her back on the gabapentin to see if it helps.
  13. I was giving Colby 100mg of gabapentin three times a day. We only had X-rays done which didn't show anything. Our next step is an MRI at a cost of $3,000, which I am assuming since the there is inflammation that keeps coming back once off the steroids that we may be dealing with an issue that would require very expensive surgery. We are also dealing with another senior hound with kidney disease. Between the two of them I spent $3,000 in one week between blood tests, ultrasounds, vet visits and medication. I love my hounds dearly and I will do everything possible for them.
  14. Today is day 2 on the galliprant and I'm not seeing any improvement.
  15. Just gave Colby her first dose of galliprant this morning, if it is going to work for her when should I expect to see some improvement?
  16. I have already tried gabapentin in conjunction with the tramadol and meloxicam and it did not help. Colby needs an anti-inflammatory medication to eliminate her discomfort. Prednisone is no longer an option for her this is why I am thinking of trying the galliprant.
  17. My Colby is having neck pain was on prednisone which really helped but then she developed pancreatitis from the steroid. Tried meloxicam prior to the steroids but it didn't help. Now that she is off the prednisone she is taking tramadol but still needs an anti inflammatory med. My vet gave me 2 weeks worth of galliprant to try but I was reading some posts about it causing GI issues. That is why I'm reaching out to the hound world for advise.
  18. Has anyone experienced good results with galliprant or experienced side effects with the use of galliprant? I have read several articles that diarrhea is a very common side effect.
  19. I also don't think it's the groin cause she never showed any issues squatting to pee.
  20. Yes it ways x-rayed. The metronidazole after only 2 doses has stopped the multiple trips outside, so I hope that continues to improve. She has had three doses of prednisone so far, and it seems as if she isn't yelping as often but then again we had better days before only to return to bad days. I want to stay positive but it's hard since we have been dealing with this for a while now. Im not sure what all tick diseases are covered in the SNAP test but I do believe it covers more th an just Lyme. I can check back with my vet on that.
  21. It all started right after she had her rabies vaccine, she was acting as if her muscles were stiff or sore because she was stretching a lot and just wasn't herself. So we took her back to the vet a few days after the shot cause we thought she was having a reaction to the shot. The vet didn't think it had anything to do with the shot but found out by her exam that she was tender in the groin area, so she diagnosed her with a groin pull. Gave her muscle relaxers and meloxicam. A week later with no improvement she started randomly yelping, when lifting her head to get up from laying down. We took her back to the vet, she examed her neck and other areas but did not react but still reacted to the groin area but it was the other side now. Gave me tramadol to add to the muscle relaxer and anti inflammatory. Another week when by and the neck pain got worse, yelping every time she lowered her head to the ground and lifting her head to get up. Took her back again, this time during the exam she yelped when her neck was lowered and when she put pressure on the base of vertebrae in her neck. She also snarled when she rotated both shoulders. Now they added gabapentin into the mix of meds. We still had no improvement so we took her back for X-rays of the neck and shoulders. The only suspicious thing that was seen is that between the 5th and 6th vertebrae in her neck the space was narrowed some. The radiologist also found that she has some calcification in her bicep tendons on both front shoulders. Said common with racing greyhounds. She is on strict bed rest but no improvement. Doctor said an MRI might be warranted but first we are going to take her off the anti inflammatory meds for a few days and start prednisone. That's were I am right now, only took 2 pills so far. Then I noticed that her one toe was swollen, I don't know if she was bit by something in the grass or if this is all part of all her problems, which makes me think of Lyme disease. To top it off today she started with the big D, we think it's from the mix of pills she has been on now for 3 weeks. We stopped the muscle relaxer, tramadol and gabapentin today, it wasn't helping her pain anyway just making her all loopy. We are praying that the prednisone will help with any inflammation and pain. we started her on metronidazole today for the diarrhea. Even though the tick tests came back negative, I hear horror stories of it going undiagnosed because these tests aren't 100% accurate. One more thing 3 weeks ago we did a senior blood panel on her and all was good but they did find a trace of protein in the urine which I read can also be caused by Lyme. The only thing we can think of that might of caused an injury to her neck is jumping out of the jeep because for a couple of days after she jumped she did limp a little on her right front leg but then that subsided. It has been one thing after another. So to answer your question, within the last 3 weeks she has experienced a front leg limp, stiff/tender muscles, protein in urine, swollen toe, and the worst is the extreme pain in the neck when lowered or moved the wrong way.
  22. I had my hound tested for Lyme disease in the vets office using the SNAP test and also had it send away for the newer C6 test which test for antibodies in the blood. Both came back negative and my vet is saying that she is most probably negative for Lyme disease. However she is experiencing some very common symptoms to Lyme. Has anyone else experienced negative test results but your hound had the Lyme disease?
  23. I have not gone to a neurologist yet. She has difficulty lowering her head to sniff the ground and when she is laying down on her side she will yelp when she lifts her head to get up.
  24. I called my vet to ask if I could give her 300mg gabapentin 3 times a day instead of the prescribed two times a day but it was not recommended. However, I see that many hound owners do give it 3 times a day. So very confusing. She still has pain when getting up so I scheduled X-rays tomorrow. I'm worried because they said they will need to sedate her to get the X-rays.
