  1. Hello! I have a limping hound again This time it's not weekend warrior syndrome though This morning he started limping on one of his front paws- throughout the day it seems to have got much worse and he now holds it up when standing still. He is quite stoic, so it's a bit hard to see where the problem is, but he sometimes winces a little when I put pressure on one of his toes - when I looked, there's a small mark on it. I heard that greys can suffer from corns - and that it can be made worse if they do a lot of pavement walking (which he does) Does the below image look like it could be causing the problem? It's just the same image 3 times as I have the worst luck uploading pictures to here! https://ibb.co/fMDeTR https://postimg.org/image/xxmlygb1z/ Thanks in advance for any help
  2. Ah that's odd! I can't seem to embed images, so that's why I've had to link... Any luck with these? http://imgur.com/a/BoULH http://imgur.com/a/T0SbY He is a handsome chap! Terrible anthropomorphism, but we walked past a couple of lady greyhounds at the weekend and they all stopped and stared at him as we went past - their owners even commented on how the girls were dumb struck by his looks- very funny!
  3. His tattoos definitely look more like NB LVH but are pretty difficult to read (I've asked other people to check that's what they make it, and everyone's in agreement) According to the rescue centre he's almost 4 now, and was surrendered to them as an active racer last year, so I assume he had to be used for something in order to have been kept so long? But he's the messiest runner I've ever seen in my life - legs all over the place, clumsy as anything. Someone told me he may have been used for breeding, as he's got a good build and lovely temperament - but it seems unlikely to me they'd use such a clumsy dog with a low prey drive for breeding... He's called Ghillie (Bob in the rescue centre, but he wasn't bothered about that so nor was I) and is the soppiest creature around - at first he was anxious around little dogs (understandable as he's never seen anything like it before) but now will trot around baby-sitting friends puppies very proudly! He's slowly coming out of himself still - started with his messy zoomies, quickly progressing to morning roaching and only very recently trying his hand at rooing! Rather than roo he prefers a ludicrous high pitched squeal of joy (which is even more ridiculous coming out of such a big beast) Here are some links to pictures of him enjoying the glorious (and not so glorious!) 4. Hello! Sorry if this isn't the correct place to put this query, but I'm new to GreyTalk and this seemed like a reasonable place. I've had my ex-racer hound since January (from a rescue centre) and he's settling in perfectly - he's a dream with other dogs, people and children and has made my first-time-dog-ownership easy in general (other than some pretty killer separation anxiety that we're working on!). When meeting other greyhound fans out and about, I always get asked about his racing history - I did some research when I first bought him home, but was unable to locate anything more specific than a guess at some litters he may have been from. He's tattoo'd in both ears, which I understand means he's from Ireland (the rescue place told me as much) His tattoos read: NB (his right) LVH (his left) and it would be great if someone could let me know any other resources they can recommend. I've been through the ones google throws up, but I don't know anything about the racing industry so that's as far as I've got I'd just be interested to know, as everyone seems to have an opinion on how much of a champion he does or doesn't look ("his teeth are too good to have been involved in racing at all!" "his paw tendons are in too good nick" "he's super muscular - must have been a champion!" "he has almost no prey drive- can't have been any good") Although, to me he is just my champion bed hogger, dinner stealer, doorbell squealer and roacher!
  5. His pads do look a bit pink and possibly sore - he's making sure he's getting lots of rest now, mind! Thanks for your advice - and XTRAWLD I love your signature - 'proudly owned'!
  6. Hello! I took my 4 year old ex racer on a slightly more ambitious walk than usual at the weekend - he gets quite a lot of exercise in general (for a greyhound anyway), 1 or 2 sprints a day (when he feels like it) plus at least an hour or two of walking a day. He can normally cover about 5 miles a day with no problems, and has done a 10 mile walk with no complaints (just followed by a few days snoozing!) At the weekend we did about 6 miles, but up some hills and a bit of rocky terrain. He seemed perfectly happy at the time, was skipping around at the top of hills etc but that evening he started to limp on his back leg. I checked his pads for damage and there's nothing I can see or feel. It does seem to be worse when he's just woken up, which could mean it's muscular? Otherwise, perhaps he just feels it more when he wakes up then gets used to it being a bit painful? He's not tatting at his paw or leg at all, so it's hard to tell which bit is actually causing him the issue I've tried to feel his leg / flex his joints and he doesn't appear to be in any pain - likewise he doesn't cry when he puts weight on it (which he will, seemingly happily, do after a little while of being awake) but he can be a bit stoic about these things. Previously he cut his paw badly on glass and it didn't bother him in the slightest - not a whimper or any sulking at all. It doesn't seem to be getting worse, but I'm worried as he can be a bit stoic, he might just be getting used to it being uncomfortable, rather than it actually getting better. Does anyone have any tips for checking for damage / things to watch out for? Or any idea when I should start to see signs of improvement or anything I can do to help him out?
