  1. The pictures on the corn hulling how to look exactly like Sully's corn-- just about the same spot too :lol . What amazed me was how HARD the core is!!! OMG, it's like a pebble! No wonder it hurts to walk on!!

If you got pus, I guess a corn -could-get infected, but I'd be more likely to think foreign object. Sully's corn doesn't bleed, ooze or anything. It is dry and rock hard. There is a definite defined border. When it comes out, there's a heck of a hole in the pad, but no blood.

  2. Our appointment is for Thursday. :( It's the first evening appointment that is available. He's still a bit stiff, but gave the squirrels a good chase, and invited himself into the bathroom, lifted the seat, and got himself a nice drink. ( Yes, he has a FULL bowl of fresh water downstairs... for some reason he just prefers the toilet  Because of that, we are really careful what it's cleaned with) He also ran off with the whole bag of Baa baa q's last night (I got them before he had too many  ) And for those of you that wonder, yes, if he's not right next to me, that generally means he's trying to steal something. :lol He's always busy. :P

  3. No news. Vet's office isn't open until Monday. :( He's no worse, but not any better. He's still eating and drinking and pooping just fine (he darned near stole our lasagna dinner! (well he DID manage to steal some of it... ), he's just not quite right. First thing Monday morning I'll call the vet and get an appointment.

Most likely I know it won't be anything and I'll just be the overly concerned pet owner... but I'd still rather go.

All three pups are sacked out with me in the computer room like usual. :blush

He hasn't had a full tick panel, and that's something I think I need to get, even just for peace of mind in the future.

  4. My love sponge isn't feeling well. He's still pretty much himself, but something isn't quite right. He's not as onery as usual, he seems to be more lethargic, stiffer, and needier than normal. Also, (and I know this sounds weird) he doesn't smell right-- body or breath. Just not... -right-. Not like a "big honkin' abcess" smell.. just off... just like the rest of him. He's still active enough for a grey, but not right for him... he's not quite moving like he should, his gait is off... (yes, I'll do a Lyme check, since it's so incredibly prevalent here, and yes, we Frontline plus monthly, mainly for ticks)

No dietary changes, nothing out of the usual. I'll be calling the vet Monday morning (I SO wish they had weekend hours :( ) to get an appointment.

All he really wants to do is curl up with me, even more than normal. :(

  5. Two miles is definitely doable! I used to regularly run 3 with mine! My old gal is almost 13, so that doesn't happen anymore, though we do walks now, usually just a mile or two at a time, but still at a good clip, I'm just not much of one that strolls. :lol So, when I walk, the dogs trot.

Most of the dogs I fostered were cat safe-- so they are out there! I know at least one of them for sure lives with a cat. And the cat bosses the dog around. :lol

My boy Sully isn't, but since my husband is very allergic to cats, that was not an issue for us adopting. We were looking for a sweet, easygoing dog to get along with our bossy mixed breed. We chose a group that fostered, and would let us bring Sebau to meet any dogs we were interested in, so we could have an idea how they would get along. :) We discussed color, and then decided that we'd just take the best match. We adopted a gorgeous blue brindle boy, Sully, who settled in with amazing speed. He's smart, sweet, affectionate (he's a 75 pound lap dog :lol ), funny... he's perfect! I don't think he's ever met a person that he didn't like! :lol (he's pretty sure ALL people were put on this earth with the sole purpose of petting him and giving him treats :P ) He's a confident, outgoing dog, so not much phased him (or phases him, he just rolls along with it, I take him with me when I vend, and he LOVES to travel, meet new people, etc.).

My second is a much more timid, shy dog, who was a foster that we kept. He is another big male, 85 pounds, but is the sweetest most loving boy. He's come so far in the past two years it's amazing.

I love the big boys, but there are awesome girls out there too. Personalities in greyhounds vary from greys like Sully who are brimming with energy and are incredibly people-centered (he can NEVER get enough attention!), to couch potatoes, to shy to goofy, to aloof and everything in between!! Meet some dogs and ask about their personalities!

Read through some of the groups' websites. Talk to someone. THEN choose a group and fill out an application. I would recommend filling out only one application, as groups do invest a LOT of time into going over applications, talking to people, and those volunteer hours are hard to come by, so be respectful of them. Do your research and pick which group you think meets your needs best, i.e. fostering, etc. :)

  6. I'm not good with words. :( I'm so sorry for your loss, and I know it hurts so much. Hugs to you and your girls :grouphug :grouphug Tigger was a lucky boy to be loved so much by you.

    Run free sweet boy.

  7. When we were looking to adopt, we "shopped" for a group. A lot of the groups in our area required a fenced in yard, which we didn't have, and couldn't (i.e. couldn't put a fence up) because of our HOA. So we looked for one that would adopt to people who would walk their dog several times a day. We were also hopeful that we could find a foster group as well, instead of having a dog "ordered" for us-- we wanted to meet the dog along with Sebau, our dal mix, to make sure that they got along. We DID find a group (actually a couple) that would work with us. Since it would involve loss of volunteer time, we picked one to work with and they were great. :)

To start out, I would first try to see WHY they said no. Is it because of the yard? Work? Get a reason.

Then, talk to other groups. If it's something like no fenced yard, there are plenty of groups that do adopt to people w/o yards, that live in condos, apartments, etc. :)

If you really want a grey, DON'T give up. :)
