  1. It's pretty normal for their poops to be firm in the morning and softer by the end of the day, but have you had a vet check to rule out anything medical? Is she scratching or biting at her tail or feet, or anything else to indicate an allergy? It would be helpful to know how much and how often you're feeding her as well.

Lots of people here swear by plain ol' Iams ProActive Health (aka the green bag); it contains beet pulp, which seems to help firm up poop. Some of the fancier, more expensive brands have not been as successful, so try not to get too hung up on organic/holistic/etc. and just find something that works. My hound has done pretty well on just about everything we've given her, so I'm lucky in this department. It's a several-month-long process of trial and error for many hound owners, but you'll find your miracle food eventually! I am sure you'll get lots of responses from people who have been there, done that.

So no medical problems. No skin issues. I Am having issues getting/ keeping weight on her. I've done bloodwork everything is normal. This is my only hound ever to ever have this much problems with weight and finding a food that's good with her system. I also find I have to feed her 4-4.5 cups a day to keep weight on. That's why I wonder about an absorption issue.
  2. So anyone have a grey that has a super sensitive system. Ive had fanny on grain free, limited ingredient and holistic food. Since having her for 3 months I cannot find out what she is sensitive to. Her BM start out firm in the am and become a cow patty by the afternoon. I hate to put her on ID long term. Any suggestions on foods to try?? Also she is on probiotics.

  3. Im so sorry this happened to you. I would be devastated if this happened in my home. I have 2 cats and 1 Grey and I worried from day one this would happen to my cats. Sadly we have the opposite thing happening here. My cat Diva attacks my Grey. Not violently, but if fanny gets too close she meows and chases her. The crazy thing is my Grey is Scared of the cats. It's makes me laugh all the time. But I'm thankful I'm not in the other situation. I agree you should be able to relax in your home and not worry.

  4. Has anyone had a Greyhound that no matter how much you brush needs a dental every 6 months to a year? I brush 5 times weekly and Fanny had a dental in Feb.with her spay prior to adoption. I'm thinking she's going to need a dental again in December. Ugh.:(

  5. I think it depends on the food and the dogs metabolism. The rescue was feeding my dog 2cups Bid or twice daily and she was 3 lbs less then her racing weight. So I went to grain free authority and feed 5 cups which the bag state 4.5- 5 cups for 50-90 lbs and she's very close to her racing weight. So I plan on dropping the amount to see what happens if she losses again I may try a higher quality food to feed less if her weight drops. I may try one of the natural grain free foods.

  6. Well I reason I felt confident is because I am doing formal training and socialization every day. Im doing this because I worry with her be an only greyhound she maybe less social with other dogs. Ive never had only 1 greyhound before but because I have 2 cats I wanted to introduce one dog at a time. I do think I wad more nervous about the dogs than she was an I reached for the collar only because I did know what she would do and the other dog owner said her dog was a newbie at the park and a 90lb weimariner makes me a little nervous.

  7. I felt pretty confident in reading her body language. And she is very attached to me and its a Pretty isolated park where there are little to no dogs around which is why we take here there instead of a larger park. I dont trust the ability of other owners as was made clear today when the lady let her dog loose. It did not also help there was a second large dog with her that seem not so friendly that they did not take off the leash. Thank god. I feel that I do have and did have complete control over my own dog which is why I thought she would have done well and maybe she just did not like that dog specifically im not sure. Even on leash I watch her body language very closely to see how she will respond and she has done well up to this point. Im not going to let it discourage me. I was just slightly disappointed.

  8. So I have had fanny as an only greyhound for 2 months. We have been socialized her with stranger and other dogs while leashed and she has been amazing. She loves other dogs large, small and people. However, today we took her to an open off leash dog park and she is so well behaved when shes in there with me and my husband. Then when this dog came the owner let the dog off the leash right away before I could see what she would do and she snapped at him while I had her collar. I hate to have to muzzle her at the dog park with other dogs. Anyone have this happen or advice to make this stop? I was in such disbelief it happened. She has never snapped or growled at any dog before while leashed and when I put her on the leash she tried again.
