  1. I will have to check out Petsmart or Petco...if I can find one, unfortunately, where I live there are no pet stores really, and the closest Petsmart is in Omaha, and this is a good 3 hours from me. But I may make the trip there when I get my tax return here shortly to spend all my money of dog treats...and gasoline to get there and back! lol!
  2. yea, I fixed her boiled chicken with brown rice, and she ate that and it seemed to settle her tummy. I havent started her back on the puppy kibble yet.
  3. I'm sure by now you all know who me and my puppy are by how many questions I am asking! lol! I apologize for all the questions and remarks. So, yesterday I started a few little 5 min. training sessions with Bacardi on the come, sit, and down commands. Well I was traing here with tiny hotdog pieces that I cut up. I didnt give her a ton but a few hours later she had explosive diarhea! not to get too in depth but I have never seen anything like this before, it was literally brown water! and her tummy was grombling a lot, she had to go potty several times to rid herself of it. (good thing was, she let me know when she had to go!) But, I gave her some boiled chicken and brown rice to see if they helped her tummy. Could it be possible that she has a sensitive tummy? Are greyhounds normally that sensitive to change in thier diet? I am switching back to cheerios for training but she really seems to pay attention to the hotdog, but I dont want her sick. She has had soft poo for the past few days as well, Vet says she is healthy and I have had her dewormed, can anyone recommend a food for her if she has sensitive tummy?
  4. I put toys and treats in with her in the crate. Today we have made GREAT strides toward her listening to me better, I have found her motivation and it is FOOD! She will do anything for a cheerio!! So I started by saying her name and whenever she responded to her name I gave her a treat and then started saying her name with the word "come" and then giving her a treat when she came and sat, shes doing MUCH better, I guess Im expecting a lot from her as she is still very young, its been a long time since Ive had a puppy! But she is doing MUCH better today! What I learned from a couple of trainers is when possible don't push or shove them, or yank/pull the collar. The best scenario is to get them to do something on their own with your commands, questions and praise. If you have to bring her in, I would clip the leash on and guide her back in. That should stop the yelling/crying. Then she might not be so afraid to come in for you going forward. Do you give her things to do in the crate? Kongs and treats for going in? It has to be a happy place. Hide some treats under her mat or blanket. Make it positive and fun. Also if she goes in on her own, more treats and LOTS of praise. Lastly, it shouldn't be used as a punishment. Not saying you're doing that...just sharing the things I've learned. Others will have some good advice too. Good luck!!!
  5. I have recently decided to use the crate for potty training Bacardi. I put her in the crate last night around 2am and she slept through the night (after an hour or so of protesing the crate by whining, barking, and attempting to eat the crate) until 6am. I let her out to go potty and she did, came back in and then played and went back to sleep. I let her out again and the past dozen times or so when she is done going potty she refuses to come to me and come inside. I call and she ignores and keeps sniffing around or walking around the yard. She does not come to me at all. Is this because I have not worked with her long enough? I mean, I get down on the floor and act all silly and goofy trying to get her to come to me, Ive tried toys and treats, but she never wants to come back inside, I end up having to walk out in the back, grab her by the collar which insights panic within her apparently because she starts yelping and crying like I am skinning her alive or beating her! When all I have done is grab a hold of her collar to bring her in. My other questions is when I put her in the crate she sits there and chews the crate, and barks incessively (not sure if I spelled that right) Ive put chew toys in with her and toys and it doesnt seem to distract her. I normally would not have a problem with her making noises in her crate but I do not want her being distructive and chewing on the crate, hurting herself or losing teeth because of it. anyways, she is getting better at the potty training. Do you think that its a good idea to start taking her to obedience or training classes?
  6. I think I am going to crate train her but my problem is, I am home a lot with her and she comes to work with me so essentially we are never apart. I have tied her leash around my waist now so she cannot get up to go anywhere without me knowing. And she is never left in the house alone so thats no problem. She is doing much better today about it!
  7. well, I have been praising her bigtime when she goes outside, and I made a huge mistake by punishing her and puting her in her crate for a few minutes cause I had to clean up the mess she had made. I put her water back down so she can drink freely. and we have done better today since I had let her out more. she seems to be picking up on my bordercollie going potty outside, cause she follows her outside and goes when she does. my BC is helping pottytrain her, lol. I am hping it will get better and I am guess I just need to keep a closer eye on her.
  8. Well, I have had Bacardi for 5 days now and everything was going splendid with the housetraining until yesterday. I have housetrained puppies before but this is my first grey. She sits by the door to ask to go out but last night she suddenly started going pee in the house. This morning I let her out to potty as soon as she was awake. she went both pee and poo outside and I let her back in and I turn around and she has pooped on the carpet! and then peed in the kitchen. I have been picking up the water dish so as she does not have access to the water all day, and I keep a very close eye on her cause she does have run of the whole house. Should I be leaving her water down? Or should I just offer it to her a few times a day? As a rule after she drinks I let her outside to pee after about 15 minutes. I am not sure why she is suddenly going potty in the house, she gets let out a ton and goes outsideto potty frequently. I do have a crate too that I have been using as I would love to have her crate trained as well. Any advice anyone can give me on this would be greatly appreciated, especially because we just had new carpet put into the majority of the house. thanks
  9. this is my Border Collie/Aussie Mix, her playmate!
  10. thank you, I honestly would have rather rescued one, but had never really looked into it. She was so sweet looking. I knew I would have plenty of time and space for her to get the proper exercise. She has a buddy to play with, my 4 year old bordercollie/aussie mix. and both my dogs go to work with me, so she is never alone, she fits in so great here, have not had any accidents in the house and she is a little cuddle bug!

I cant figure out how to get them to post not in a link.
  13. She is from a farm in McCook, NE. I guess they person who had them bred them for use of hunting coyotes. I do not think that she is registered.
  14. Hi, I am new here from Nebraska. I just got my first greyhound puppy 2 days ago and am very anxious to learn more about the breed. Her name is Bacardi and she is 10 weeks old. I have not had much luck on information on how to properly raise, feed and take care of a greyhound puppy so I figured I would start here. I really want to learn as much as I can about them so that I can take proper care of her, she is my second dog, I also have a Border Collie who I thought would make good friends with her. any information would be helpful! thanks!
