  1. Oh I have had to deal with this, twice on two different greys. It's quite an interesting bandage procedure that requires figure 8's and bandaging right up to the tail and around the hips with zero guarantee of any of it staying on! The thing I find the worst about this is the dried blood on the fur, and that's what actually gets them to start licking, because it's pulling and tugging on the fur. Not sure if you are able to shave the fur off around the wound. If your hound is sedentary most of the time, that's really the only time I would leave some gauze on there and bandaging for it to heal, otherwise it might be best to just leave it open. If you have any colloidal silver, it really helps the healing time, or the Ouchless Bandaid liquid for flushing. Keep it clean, keep him from moving about a lot and you should see some crusting eventually. You should however help him flex it gently over the next week as well, you don't want this area to get stiff and develop any kind of scar tissue making it tough for mobility. I have often thought about liquid bandage but I think it's pretty difficult to use with fur so I never bought any. Scritches.

Edit: I happened to find this. While this is probably too tight to fit for a wound, it might be pretty handy? https://www.ortocanis.com/en/technical-helps-for-dogs/90-dog-knee-brace.html Maybe you can cut up a stretchy sweater?

  2. :bighug This certainly doesn't sound great. Hang in there. Is taking him to emerge for something like this an option?

Is this your only option in terms of internal medicine? I know I am spoiled with many good options in my area so I'd be moving on to someone else at this point. What if you took him to the ER? Would they have the ability to do the test sooner?

I'm sorry, I have no good advice or experience to add, but am pulling for your boy.

    Same thoughts, exact same time.

A full ER facility might have this available for you. Smaller clinics around here don't even have x-ray machines, so perhaps go that route to one that is better stocked. Your poor boy.

  3. It's funny how one little thing sets them off, right? What kind of a sound did it make? Sometimes it might have been an action just before you lit it as well, so it can be tough to pinpoint. My boy HATES noises so I can relate, but you are doing the right things to get her back on track. Just need some time to get her acclimatized to it.

  4. Pred can cause dogs to drink a lot and gain weight. My boy was on it for a long time and did neither, mind you he wasn't a big eater and he didn't lose much either. I'm unfamiliar with Budesonide, or the B12, or how these all might interact with eachother. How much exercise is he getting (enough to offset the food intake)?

  5. Gabapentin is amazing. Haven't had much luck with methocarbomol (relaxant) but doesn't mean it wouldn't work for Jeter.

Harness is great. Daily activities fine, just try to avoid the jarring stuff like jumping down from a bed or couch or out of the car or down the last steps.

Disc issues are really tricky, you might find he gets more relief from gabapentin if he's not better in a few weeks with this new regimen. Is he limping when walking at all?
