  1. Thanks all! Yes I am happy at how beautiful his teeth are now! He has a follow up on Friday, then I can brush his teeth again. I have always brushed his teeth weekly, will up my game to every day if possible! This crazy hound has broken a couple of toothbrushes in half in his enthusiasm for the poultry flavored paste!

  2. This includes the X-rays also.

    It is a GP vet

It also says in the fine print it can go up by 20% from quote.....

Thanks I searched forums for dental dental prices etc and couldnt find what I was looking for so I posted. Sorry if its redundant!!

We've had posts like this before and it all depends on where you live and what the local vet market is like. Rocket's last dental in 12/15 was tied in with a surgery to remove a benign mass under his skin and the whole thing was only $400 or so plus the cost of labs beforehand. He needed no extractions.

  3. Our vet in Lisle, IL (Chicago West burbs) gave estimate of $739-$1169. Low range is no extractions high range is extractions. They say they wont know until they put him under and take a closer look. Seems very $$$. Anyone have any experience with this?

  4. The machine is usually about 6-7 wide by 3 deep by 5 tall. Depends on the brand. When its plugged in it is charging. It has a carry case with a shoulder strap so easy for you to carry over your shoulder for sure. The biggest problem we have with wound vacs are the air leaks but it is easy to troubleshoot once you get used to it. Sounds like you only have to have it on for one week? No problem!!!!

That is the brand I use most often but theyre all similar

Activac on that site is the specific machine I see most often

  5. Here is a story about a racing kennel having acupuncture done to some of their dogs that you might find interesting.

    Very interesting!!

Depends on the number of needles used. They come in packs and my vet charges a per-pack fee, in addition to an office charge. Our practitioner is a licensed veterinarian in addition to a certified acupuncturist and chinese herbal medicine specialist. The office charge is $65, and the acupucture session comes out @ $30, so total $95 per visit, which we do once every three or four months.

I'm sure it also depends on your geographic area, and the general costs of vet treatment.

    Thanks

Its likely going to vary a lot depending on where you live. My vet, who is a DVM, but also certified in acupuncture and chinese medicine charges a flat fee if $68.55 per treatment. For comparison, the chiro charges us $80 for an in home treatmnet with a slight travel charge included and the PT that comes to our house charges $85 per session/hour. However, that same PT at the specialty ortho facility costs us $145.

Thankfully Violet's insurance covers 80% of all of this!

Thanks. Is it too late to get pet insurance for a 9 year old greyhound?

  6. While I have not yet seen a greyhound with hypothyroid-induced neurologic signs (but I've only been a neurology tech for just over a year now...), I was surprised to learn that our neurologists will run a Michigan State thyroid panel on dogs that present with vestibular disease, and other neurologic signs that don't have an obvious cause. Most thyroid panels will come back normal, but some don't, and the dogs usually do better once thyroid supplementation starts.

I'd be happy to pull together references, if you're interested.

    I would really appreciate that!

  7. Thanks all. His behavior is strange. Panting and Pacing in the evenings and just wanting to lay down outside a lot which he never has before. Almost like sundowners in dementia.

Ghs typically willl run low on not only T4's but the Ft4 may be low too--gotta check that cTSH ;-)

Panel for humans include antithyroid antibodies, Free T4, tsh, t3. I would assume canine panel would be similar. It's expensive. $200.
