  1. They think spine-- neck, thoracic and lower back issues. He went through this 4 years or so ago and it was awful. That time We ended up back at hospital with an over night stay due to pain. I'm an RN. This time I asked them for steroid shot in addition to the taper they want him on and better pain meds before leaving. They did give him some IV steroids and methadone but now we're home and he's still only turning in circles to his right and won't lay down. Shaking a lot. Won't take the gabapentin in PB or cheese. Help!!!!

  2. My hound just got up from crate (he goes in his crate sometimes on his own) and cried holding his anterior left paw up. Crying off and on. Gave him tramadol that he has from last year. Seems to be calming down. No visible or witnessed injury. Also on a side note, his nails are always long. Groomer hits quick every time but they're still long. Advice? X-ray needed?

  3. It's improving. I bought liquid bandage spray for dogs that has a bitter taste which has helped!!! It's getting smaller. He does occasionally reopen it but since it's getting smaller and is not infected I'm not as worried. Thanks everyone for your help! I love grey talk!

  4. Thanks everyone. I put the PJs bottoms on and he was quite embarrassed but it did help. Within 3 hours the area had improved. Meanwhile, I bought the liquid bandage spray for dogs. The pants fall off rather easily even though they're a boys size 10 lol. Now he's locked off the liquid bandage so I will put the pants back on. Sigh.

Oh I have had to deal with this, twice on two different greys. It's quite an interesting bandage procedure that requires figure 8's and bandaging right up to the tail and around the hips with zero guarantee of any of it staying on! The thing I find the worst about this is the dried blood on the fur, and that's what actually gets them to start licking, because it's pulling and tugging on the fur. Not sure if you are able to shave the fur off around the wound. If your hound is sedentary most of the time, that's really the only time I would leave some gauze on there and bandaging for it to heal, otherwise it might be best to just leave it open. If you have any colloidal silver, it really helps the healing time, or the Ouchless Bandaid liquid for flushing. Keep it clean, keep him from moving about a lot and you should see some crusting eventually. You should however help him flex it gently over the next week as well, you don't want this area to get stiff and develop any kind of scar tissue making it tough for mobility. I have often thought about liquid bandage but I think it's pretty difficult to use with fur so I never bought any. Scritches.

Edit: I happened to find this. While this is probably too tight to fit for a wound, it might be pretty handy? https://www.ortocanis.com/en/technical-helps-for-dogs/90-dog-knee-brace.html Maybe you can cut up a stretchy sweater?

That brace is a good idea!! Hmmmm

  5. I put the PJs on him it's quite funny! Now he won't even eat a treat, he's so embarrassed. I'll also get new bactine, I read in another thread they don't like it but it's not toxic.

  6. I'm at a loss. I'm a nurse but cannot get any dressings to stay on his knee. I even tried kerlix around abdomen then down leg. It all falls off. I have gone through a lot of coban! The wound will finally start crusting over then he licks it open. What if I do liquid bandage if I can catch it in the crusted over state? Help! It's half dollar sized, no flaps to suture.

  7. I'm not short but I'm only 125 pounds. Adopted an 85# dog in 2010. He pulled me to the ground a couple of times. I bought the easy walk harness and have not had a problem since. Highly recommend it. Also safer and more comfortable for the hound. I also use voice commands "leave it" which he has learned to mean "please don't jerk my shoulder out of its socket". My 85# soon walks him without a problem with the harness also.

  8. We had a cat first, then got our greyhound who was slapped once or twice by the cat. They coexisted for 3 years before the aged cat passed away. Its been 3 years and wed like a new cat. Any advice? Hopefully the new cat will put him in his place? He never was aggressive with the previous cat, but he got close to her a few times and was slapped. He wont sleep in a crate. We do have a cat door to the finished basement and he doesnt go down there.

  9. Wow!

In our area here in Ontario, friends paid >3k for cleaning and 21 extractions. I always find US costs much less expensive for everything, services, meds and various pet products. I consider you to be very fortunate.

Everything about pet ownership is expensive for sure! We just got health insurance. We calculated it will save us $$. It includes wellness.

Ill be real honest here. Its crazy the way most Vets are charging. I have thought that the estimate I was given from a cheap clinic was crazy. $125 for bloodwork. Then if all is well, $500.

I think I could load up all the dogs that needs dental, and drive the 1200 miles in the truck that gets crappy gas mileage and get all three done way cheaper than here. It sucks.

  10. Ditto--feel the pavement with the back of your hand. Even here in Chicago it gets hot. I have a large black hound, sometimes I spray him down with the hose pre-walk, the evaporation during the walk seems to help him, then I spray him afterward also. He seems to like that! He also likes to play around in a baby pool.
