  1. I'm so sorry it was so drastic. We've never needed a dental, but I would be a bit upset that the vet didn't call you. Although they may have put her under than needed every second to get all the teeth out. You don't want to keep these greys under for very long. Hopefully she bounces back quickly. Hopefully she will be zooming around feeling so much better by Saturday

  2. Guess I should be glad it's not still gushing blood!

It's still bandaged with the manuka honey. I've been trying to resist messing with it today. I'll change the bandage tomorrow. She's bouncing around normally and leaving the foot alone. No muzzle needed. She's a good pup. ;-)

Glad to know the torn webbing is so common. Darn crazy dogs.

No heat in her leg above the bandage so hopefully it's healing nicely

  3. I like that "manuka MONEY" just keep it dry, very short walks on lead and give it couple weeks if not bleeding a lot

LOL On yes that's what I get for typing with the laptop on the sofa. It's funny so I'm not even going to edit! :P

It's not even bleeding. It was a little oozy this morning but after the first cleaning there has been no more ooze.

It probably won't reattach, and healing will take about as long as other foot injuries. Our boy Copper used to split a web every other month or so for one reason or another. I don't think he had any left by the time we lost him at age 12.

I found it easier to soak the whole foot than to try and apply anything to one area - like you said, it hurts. One thing to think about is, several times Copper actually had a sliver or small stick still stuck in his foot. He wasn't happy at all, but I learned to really inspect these injuries for foreign bodies. I just squirted a whole gob of neosporin in between the toes and sort of rubbed them together and tried to limit his activity for a week or so.

I'm not sure she would stand there long enough for me to soak it. I've been poking at here while she's sleeping on a dog bed. Pretty sure there's nothing stuck in there with the help of the flashlight today. Glad to know it's totally not a big deal. I initially thought "no big deal" but then the worry wart part set in. "what if it doesn't heal and the extra webbing needs to be cut off by the vet" etc...

I think I will manuka honey it before bed tonight and bandage. That way I know she's not licking it while I'm at work tomorrow.

Hey Jess....my Duffy ripped his webbing a few years ago. Dr. Mimi just wrapped it up and we kept it clean. Healed up just fine. Hope Rainy heals up quickly. :)

Thanks Linda! I'm hoping she will be healed by next weekend! She likes to stand for the long car rides. :)

  4. Maybe we should call it severed webbing? :rofl Rainy had a bit too much fun during her vacation and split her webbing completely in between 2 toes. Apparently she forgot that she's 9 years old.

She's almost completely torn off pads before but this is our first webbing injury. I'm trying to keep it dry and using some surgical scrub stuff on it a few times each day. From my flashlight pokings (which she is not happy about) It's not looking like the webbing will re-attach itself so I'm expecting it to take a little while for each side to heal.

Anyone know how long this will take to heal up? Should I just bandage it with some manuka money for a few days? It's hard to spread her toes to dry the area since it doesn't feel good for her. I've just been gauzing on some surgical scrub. Any other healing tips? Right now she's got a baby sock and vet wrap on because she insisted on licking.

  5. I'm going to guess that the excited atmosphere has him confused.

The first time BF was tickling and wrestling with his 11 year old son, Rainy rushed over all puffed up and on alert. I verbally corrected her, told her it was ok, then held onto her so she could watch them continue from a safe distance from the flailing arms! LOL

I would try to keep him calm so he doesn't escalate and try to join in. Dogs are not allowed to wrestle with kids. Too dangerous. All it takes is a stray tooth from an open panting mouth to break skin... Don't ask me how I know! It's never an intentional bite but rather a collision.

Now when they wrestle squeal or get loud, both dogs don't even bother opening an eyeball.

  6. LOL she hasn't tried a full body shake yet. She did try to get the ones out of her front leg with her teeth. She was a good girl and listen when I told her to leave them.

Her treatments have been once per week. We go on vacation in a week so after this next trip she will go 2 weeks between treatments. Haven't noticed to much difference so far after Wednesday. Maybe she's been more relaxed.... But then she is a greyhound. We are going for a walk tonight so I'll see how she handles that.

  7. Well her second treatment had different spots based on the behavior feedback I gave. Sunshine was much less thrilled about the needles today. Not sure if it was because of the different spots or if she was just more anxious today. She does not like them anywhere in her front legs. The needles in her back were also not loved. The one needle wouldn't come out of her back. Dr said it was her muscle grabbing into it? Had to tug to get it out. Dr is going to call me after 3 days to get an update so she can research her next treatment plans. She keeps telling me behavior things are the hardest things to treat. It seems like she's really interested in experimenting with it though, so that's encouraging!

    Sunshine came home ravenous! LOL

Thanks for updating. Hopefully the treatments will help. FWIW, often times any kind of shift can manifest as a worsening of symptoms before things get better or different. Maybe something like that has been going on for Sunshine this week. Please keep us updated :)

I'm really hoping that's what's going on. The Dr did warn me that it could get worse before better, but she said a few days of worse. Wasn't expecting a while week! We have another appointment scheduled next Wednesday.

  8. LOL the Dr did do the tummy points and anxiety ones. I'm hoping to see more improvement after this treatment. We always potty before going in and after we leave. She's impressively solid with her potty training, especially since it took years to get her trained!

    Poor Carrie, how embarrassing!

The needles my vet used did not have plastic ends and he forgot and left one in Dante! I found it after we got back to my office and Dante was napping on the floor behind my desk chair. I kept it for the longest time . . .

When I picked up or dog needs needles went everywhere! LOL this Dr puts one in on each side so if they move and one pops out they still have the other one on the spot

  9. So an update! We had our first appointment last Wednesday and it went well. I only had to hold her still for the needle that went in her head. Sunshine didn't want the vet to get that up close and personal. Nothing a little neck rub didn't fix.

No blood, no yelping, she actually relaxed after the needles were in for about 10 minutes. Pics are here

We have our second appointment tonight. This past week her belly issues have been worse and her anxiety.... I can't place it. It's been worse, but it's definitely different. She's more reactive but seems bolder and fearful all at the same time. She's not hiding behind me when scary things approach, but she's clearly still terrified. Can't really describe it. It's puzzling since we've worked for years to make her safe place right by mommy.

I bought a block of 5 sessions so we should know for sure by then if it helps or not.

And she was not happy about the needles that went into her front legs. The first 3 wouldn't go in and bent. So the Dr used a sturdier one and put it in at the end when she was more comfortable with it.

  10. If it were my dog, I wouldn't worry too much and just trust their healthy immune system. But I have two really healthy pups who travel often. I'm going that means they are exposed to lots of cooties. LOL

  11. Wow! I doubt they will light anythingnon fire with a dog. I had no idea they did ask of that with humans though. There's a lot more to this than I first thought! I wonder if this would help my allergies... I'm to the point of taking a steroid and an antihistamine every day (usually twice) I'll have to look into it if it goes well for the pup. LOL

  12. Thanks cleptogrey that helps a lot with my worry! As long as Sunshine isn't in pain from it I'm going to commit to 4 treatments and see what it's like after that.

Although I'm going to have to look up moxa scars! LOL

You could probably even do electric stim at home! They have those machines for under $100....
