  1. I feed my two separately and watch them until they are done. We have had Wylie a year now and he still growls/snaps/barks at Razzy when she tries to get on the couch with him and she is too close. She just ignores it though and gets up there anyway, even if there is no room for her. Eventually they work it out. If I thought it was a real threat I wouldn't let them on the couch together, but for him I think it's more of a grumpy "leave me alone". You will learn their limits over time and they will too. Separating is best if you have any doubts.

  2. We walk every day, and in these temps the walks are shorter, and the layers are heavier. It takes me longer to get us all dressed & undressed than the walk itself! lol

They wear their normal fleece coats, plus snoods, plus an extra overcoat that is fleece-lined wind-breaker type material. I have been starting to use mushers secret on their paws if the roads are really a mess too.

  3. Congratulations and kudos to you for doing your research. The more you find out about greyhounds, the more you will love them. I basically fell into my first greyhound with no experience or knowledge whatsoever, pretty much took him home blindly, but he was the love of my life and started me down the path of a world filled with greyhounds. He was a problem child too, had a lot of aggression issues (probably on the more rare side) and I had to get help and knowledge after adopting hm. But he was still the best dog I ever had and I've never looked back. :) I agree they are not the breed for everyone, but it sounds like you are ready :)

  4. Also, just note that dogs can also get out of a harness if not fitted properly. My 2 greys wear the Wiggles Wags & Whiskers harness; Wylie because he pulls, and Razz because she sometimes spooks. I like them for both reasons. I have only walked dogs with a martingale if I know they are good on a leash, not shy, not pullers, not high prey drive, etc. Otherwise, I prefer a harness.

  5. Mine were on Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream and did well on it (about $50 for a 30 lb. bag). I have switched over to Natural Balance Duck & Potato (about $55 for a 28lb. bag). Both of my dogs have done very well on both foods.

Whatever you choose, I would start with whatever they are currently feeling your grey now at the kennel, and very gradually switch over, keeping in mind that it may take a while to find the right food for him, and each switch should be done slowly.

    Good luck!

  6. I used to give fresh or frozen raw marrow bones and Quiet Man LOVED them, but he got a slab fracture from one and had to eventually have that tooth removed. Rawhides always make me nervous, but I have found the ones that are smooth without knots on the end are better than the knotted ones which they tend to pull apart and can choke. I think I gave a turkey neck only once (or maybe it was a chicken neck?) and he swallowed it whole so it freaked me out and I never gave it again. I've bought antlers but they get bored of them quickly. I am now trying to find something else for Razzy, not so much to clean her teeth, but to occupy her energy, especially with the winter coming. I bought an "Everlasting treat ball" from Starmark, and she popped the treat out within 5 minutes, another choking hazard. And I would also never give greenies again, another choking hazard. I would love to hear more suggestions & success stories, I am at a loss.

  7. I personally would not give Proin to one of my dogs again, even thought I know people have had success with it. Quiet Man began leaking & peeing in his sleep and my vet started him on Proin. The leaking stopped, but he had an increase in "seizure-like" episodes. He never had full blown seizures that I know of, but occasionally had episodes best described as confusion when coming out of a seizure. These increased on the Proin and I stopped it. I've had no experience with DES, but I don't know if it is is used on males.
