Grey Pup (4/9)

  1. We are looking for Hey Java, aka as Ike. Born 12 Jan. 2003 and adopted through GPA south Alabama. If anyone knows anyone in this GPA group, we are owned by the father of Ike. His dad is Hey Kelly J. We also adopted Hey Kelly J's daughter Miz Cookie. Kelly's son Hey Troy was adopted by someone in our group GPA/Nashville and we met Troy a few weeks ago. We would love to see pictures of Ike ! He is a fawn brindle and may look like his sister Miz Cookie. Please email pictures of Hey Java to siddogone@hotmail.com Heck, if you want to call me toll free at work.... 800-670-3092 Thanks Wayne Travis Paducah, Ky.
  2. Last October we adopted Hey Kelly J, a senior hound soon to be 11. After the loss of Elivs in September CoraFaye needed some company. All was well and we fostered a few hounds for GPA/Nashville since then. Kelly and CoraFaye knew we had a foster and would welcome them. Fun in the yard and take long naps but soon the foster would leave and another one would come in. We got word that Kelly's daughter was coming into the group and asked if we were interested in fostering her. We thought that would be cool to foster a sibling of Kelly's for a few weeks as our house limit of hounds was two. Well guess what? We failed fostering. Welcome home Miz Cookie. You and your dad can now hang out together. CoraFaye likes you also and allows you to nap on her bed also.
  3. Yesterday we picked up our Kelly's daughter to foster. Just like her dad, she is a sweetheart. Begs for ear rubs and a leaner. Might say a perfect foster!! Miz Cookie and her dad Hey Kelly J
  4. Since the Oregon group seems to be an independent group and not a member of Greyhound Pets of America, it might be advisible to contact them since they have a larger group of members and contacts for hounds that need special attention. We are also owned by a DI dog known as CoraFaye. Three years ago she showed the signs of DI. With the help of two vets, one a long drive away, she is healthy and very happy/spoiled. The expenses are well managed with daily home urine test. When the specific gravity starts to drop on the Refractometer you increase the Desmopresin. When the SG is normal you can cut back. We have found out they go in cycles of thurst and periods of remission from the thurst. Daily test is the way out of the huge expense. There is a home for every hound. A simple Google search of (Greyhound Pets of America) will find them. As we humans might need to check glucose levels many times a day, so does a DI dog to see if they need their meds. Managing the DI is the key. Wayne CoraFaye ( I am a happy and healthy hound with DI and have been for three years and my eye drops cost $85 and they last for three months) I pray this post isn't (Locked)
  5. This past Tuesday Elvis lost his running buddy. Bo, our neighbors black lab lost his battle with cancer. He and Elvis have had many fun filled times running in the fenced in yard. Since Bo was a senior, Elvis seemed to sense it and would let him win some of the races. Each morning on our walks, Elvis and CoraFaye would would visit with Bo at the end of the driveway. They sniffed and enjoyed seeing who could tinkle the most on top of the other spot. The last two mornings has been quite different. Bo wasn't at the driveway waiting for a visit. This moring Elvis even barked hoping to awaken Bo as if he had over slept so they could visit. Tonight Elvis stood at the fence and looked for Bo. Bo, over the last eleven years you have kept the a smile on everyone faces in the neighborhood and barked the night your dads truck was broken into and they were caught and jailed. Run free my friend. Chase all the tennis ball you can find.
  6. Still no P.O. Box number for donations to GT. I don't use Paypal or credit cards online. I gave up on donations.
  7. Still didn't work... I will have to look at my checkbook register I have in the bank safe deposit box when I sent in my last check... Hour wait at the bank. Thought there was a snail mail address also suppose to be listed? Mr controls, support GT, make a donation. Still don't get the donation page shown.. I have my glasses on but still can't see it.
  8. I click on my control panel and I don't get the "sample" as shown on the example on Grey Dads page. I wonder why... No mention of donation date or anything???? Just HOW to make a donation. Silly computers.. Just like a woman. Glad my wife isn't in the room!!
  9. It would be nice if you added a program that would size pictures that would POST to GT. Some people "like myself" can't figure out GT's picture size requirements, so a lot of us have stopped posting pictures to the photo gallery and posts. I didn't renew my Picture Trail membership since it would not longer post to GT and GT can't add my pictures, so gave up. I have tried to add pictures for months to my photo gallery but they are toooooooo big and can't be added to GT photo gallery. There has to be a program you can add to GT that will accept the 200mg picture someone post and change it to your 50 or 60k limit.
  10. Yes, some people treat their skin kids the same way. I work for an ambulance service, so seen it all. The only difference, we can call child protection services, where an animal doesn't have that option.
  11. I agree with Lynn. Establish a good relationship with your vet, stick with them, get all your meds from them. Pets are a member of the family, and your vet is part of the family. I send my vet and staff a Christmas card every year with pictures of our hounds and have for years. We walked into Cracker Barrel one night and met our vet. We sit at the same table, shot the bull, and the vet stole our ticket and he paid the tab. Letting your vet know you are shopping around on price isn't smart move. I am sure some vets are like doctors (yea, I am in and out of ER so I know about MD's) and they think they know it all, YOUNG and going to save the world and try to charge for it. Today at work, we were talking about the "old time MD's" when they used to make HOUSE CALLS. OK folks, I am 46, so I remember doctors making house calls. The biggest butt busting I ever got was faking being sick, so I didn't have to go to school. Mom called the doctor and he came to the house. After being checked out, doc said, he isn't sick, just doesn't want to go to school. Anyone tried to get a MD to make a house call lately? Vets still make house calls. Vet school isn't cheap............ Years of paying back loans from years of training, but you can't be raped so they can try to get rich in ten years and lay on the beach in Jamaica. I don't see anything wrong with getting a second opinion from another vet if I feel the need for it. I am sure some vets will recommend taking your hound to a specialist or another vet as some MD's will send you to another doctor for additional help or advice. Probably the best advice on vets would be talking to other pet owners. Don't slam your vet right out of the racing box (no pun intended) Try to work with your vet.. If you can't, time to move on.

    Seatac Pilot

In the eight years Seatac donated blood, how many other dogs lives did he save? He ran his heart out for his trainers and gave his blood/soul to save others. Put a Purple Heart on Old Mans grave, as he was wounded go many times to save others.
  13. Sending a prayer your way. It hurts your heart. Big hug to you
  14. It was one year ago, September 21, 2002 we had to have our Britney Spaniel put down because of cancer. We had her for 16 years. She was the love of our lifes. Pictures are still everywhere of her around the house. It was very tough for a while. Heart was broken. We knew we had to move on, life is tough, sucks at times but had to move on. Last November we adopted Elvis (the white and brindle hound in the picture). Since then, we adopted CoraFaye to keep Elvis company. We will never forget Sydney (AKA Siddog). She hasn't been replaced by Elvis and CoraFaye, but we made room in our hearts for them. Everytime you loose one that is dear to you, they take a small piece of your heart with them. Your heart only grows larger to make room for another. I saw a T-shirt once. I wish I had bought it but it was right after I lost Sydney and didn't agree with what it said. It said something about loosing one dog only makes room in your heart for another. I totally agree now. Someway, you WILL make room in your heart for another. Don't ask how. I guess we all have HUGE hearts and willing to take in another.
