  1. The last few years that the tracks in Massachusetts were open they had a big Greyhound Pet Expo. The last year they had the Expo, we bid in a Silent Auction. The prize was the opportunity to name a race dog and to have first "dibbs" on adopting the dog when it retired. Well, we won. We named the dog Aljo Atomic Kogo (Aljo was the kennel and Kogo is the name our friends call us - long story). Atomic retired and came up to Massachusetts on Linda Jensen's last haul. He is doing really well. He is smart and ignores Berry when she growls at him. OK, I know the rules, here he is! IMG_2214.jpg

  2. A few years back, my boy J.J. (now at the Bridge - not from chocolate!) ate thirteen chocolate cupcakes without frosting. Called the vet. Office was closed so I got the answering service. They had him call me. After he stopped laughing, he asked how much J.J.weighed. 77 pounds. He'll be fine. Did they have the foil wrappers? No, just the paper ones. His poop will probably look weird but he'll be fine. He was. Sigh. That will make me not trust someone to watch the dogs while I take a shower!!

  3. Our vet sells the Iverhart Plus. My two girls will eat anything, so they take them fine. My 14 year old boy (who passed to the Bridge three weeks ago) HATED them. Regular Heartguard was chewy and I guess had a stronger aroma. He loved those. His smell-er wasn't too good the last few years so he would not eat anything that wasn't strong smelling. . The Iverhart is crunchy. He had no top teath in the back so I would have to break them up and mix the pieces with peanut butter to get him to take them.

  4. Just got a call from one of our adopters. She said that her vet called her to tell her that there was a dog flu coming up the east coast of the U.S. It supposedly affects greyhounds worse than other dogs and that a grey in Rhode Island had died from it. He was calling all of his clients that have greys and suggesting that they have their dogs get a series of two flu shots and then once a year get one. Anyone heard about this?

    Thanks

  5. I remember the day that Martha brought her to your house. She was supposed to be a temporary foster. Just there long enough for the kennel fence to be replaced. She was so very scared that she stood there and peed all over herself. I saw the look on your mom's face. I told Martha on the way back to our house "She's not going anywhere". Martha said no, she was just going to be a foster. Well, she stayed. She had the perfect home with the perfect family. Fly free little girl, you will be missed.
