  1. Run free sweet boy! My 3 girls will meet you over the rainbow bridge. Two of them had secret crushes on you, and I am sure will be trying to get over the shyness and play coy with you handsome boy!

Cancer is the most unfair disease there is.

We will be sending loving thoughts and prayers that your heart will heal quickly, and only the good memories will then remain!

  2. If you use Heartguard Plus the $6 rebate on a 6 month supply and $12 rebate on 12 month supply will end soon. Might be a good time to stock up on extra boxes. I know I will be stocking up for next year.

I just checked the Heartgard website, and they do not show a rebate. Just a $5.00 coupon.

Where did you find the rebate info???

    Inquiring minds want to know???

  3. Our permanent foster Maggie, had to leave us today. She in just 5 short months, would have been 15. She was returned back to GPA-Houston by her 2nd owner. She was a frightened, malnourished, weak, and acting out in fear pup. She was placed with us just 2 short months ago. We did not know how long she would be with us, or if she could even recover.

In the short time she was here, she managed to gain a little weight, learn to live with and get along with other hounds, and to play. She discovered a flying disc in the bottom of the toy box, and loved that toy to no end.

But her weight again started slipping, and she quit eating. Her liver and kidneys were failing at a much faster rate. Yesterday, she had a violent swing in her mind, and attacked several times. Today, after conferring with the vet, he felt that she had a serious problem that would effect her permently and get worse. (Sorry I don't remember all the fancy words.) It was decided that she was ready to leave us. And she peacefully passed across the bridge in my arms.

She may have been labeled a foster, but in our hearts, she was our Maggie. I wish I could remember her making me laugh so many times, as each day she learned a new thing. Right now I am a puddle of tears from the hole she left in my heart. But, I just want you all to remember, that she did live and was loved, for the couple months she was here!!!

    Love,

    Mom, Dad, and Kendra

Run free sweet Maggie. You will be missed very much, but I know you are now pain free and running after that disc you loved. And you can poke as many holes in it as you want, because it is self healing!!! It was only a couple short months, but it felt like a lot longer by the way you made me laugh. Thank you for your time here!!!

Maggie is 14 1/2 years old, and is partially deaf, cataracs so partialy blind and has thyroid issues. She has been with us for almost 2 months now, and is a permanent foster. Maggie, since yesterday has taken to sudden aggression attacks. Yesterday, she grabbed my arm out of the blue when I was reaching to snap her leash on the collar.

Today, she snapped and grabbed my arm again on 3 separate issues. The first was when trying to brush her teeth this morning. The second was when I was trying to stop her from going after another food bowl. And this afternoon, she was laying down right next to Tootsie, our house guest, and she suddenly attacked Tootsie and was biting her. I put myself between Maggie and Tootsie, and attempted to remove Maggie from the bed, that I thought she was guarding. And she grabbed my arm again. No damage, just a grab and growl.

Then, within an hour, she was lying between my husband and me, and suddenly jumped up, and snapped and growled. We were on the telephone to our GPA liaison about her new behavior.

She was not asleep for any of these instances. I have snapped a leash on her hundreds of times. Whether she was standing, or laying down. She has always wanted to go with me as soon as she sees the leash, so I don't know what happened.

I have removed food from her on numerous occasions also. She is real sneaky about stealing Tootsies food, as our guest is fed raw, and Maggie wants to indulge. I have redirected Maggie to her own dish so many times in the past.

Tootsie, age 11 or 12, has been here almost 2 weeks, and they have been getting along greyt. They lay down together, back to back, sleep beside each other, sniff and follow each other in the yard, even drink water out of the same bowl at the same time. Tootsie is a tripod and was sound asleep when Maggie attacked her. Tootsie was laying with her back side towards Maggie. Maggie was awake, and watching me, as it was getting to be time to feed them. My husband was sitting right there also. This just does make any sense.

I have the suspicion that this is not the only time Maggie has snarked in the last couple days. We have our precious Kendra here too. Kendra, age 7, has fostered numerous hounds and is extremely mellow, and has been with us for almost 4 years.. When we leave we always muzzle all 3 as we don't want any accidents. But since yesterday, Kendra has been hiding in the closet for hours at a time. When she comes out, and Maggie is in the room, she always peeks around the corner, to see if the coast is clear before she comes out. Taking a wide route away from Maggie.

Anybody have any suggestions. I will be calling the vet early tomorrow morning.

  5. We just picked up a foster that had her stitches removed from the amputation. She is pretty wobbly on her remaining back leg.

Is there anything we can do to help her regain her strength in the leg so she is not so prone to fall? She is trying gallently to maneuver the back leg under her to move, but after a hop or two, she looses balance and almost falls. (We are trying to assist her, but this is our first special needs foster). We need to be trained in helping her get around. Besides the sling, anything else in the advise column would be appreciated!

    Thanks!

Sherrie, Mom to spoiled rotten Kendra

  6. Hang on Ace. Be a good boy and let your momma give you something that will put a little nutrition in your tummy.

When our friends came for a visit, their 17 year old poodle had quit eating. Between boiled rice and tuna in water (dont strain out the water, just add a little straight from the can) and making it a little warm in the micro, started that pup back to eating. Good luck, and you are a good mom for trying everything for this boy!

  7. Melissa crossed over the rainbow bridge today. She was 11 1/2 years young, and was taken from us by the evil osteo cancer.

She is now pain free and running through the heavens with Mandy our other senior.

Run free my sweet, and know we will always miss you!

  8. Thank you everyone for your kind words and prayers. You all helped me tremendously

Somehow down inside I knew the time would be short, but I just needed to see it to believe it.

Melissa made her first GSOD tonight when she tried to roach. But then, when she did stand up, she ran to get her yogurt snack. So, I will watch her for signs that she is telling me it is time. She is getting all the treats she wants, and getting lots of luvins. She is not ready to go away yet, because she even tries to take advantage of me too! The mail was in my one hand, and some pretzels were in the other. She grabbed the mail, took it just out of my reach, and started tearing it up in little pieces. Tear a piece, look to see if she was getting a pretzel. Rip another piece off, look to see if the pretzel was being offered. She made me laugh so hard, she got all but 1 of the pretzels. This was the first time she has ever tried anything destructive manipulative since she walked into the house.

    Seniors are so special!

    Thank you again!!

  9. I am trying not to panic or lapse into a pile of screaming and crying. I will wait to do that when I go back to find out some more results in 10 days.

But, from the time of starting to limp to needing to make the decision of letting go, can anyone tell me approximately how long of a time frame am I looking at????? The pain pills seem to help Melissa some, but she has not stopped limping while on them. She is on Tramadol now. The area in question is her rt shoulder. I was hoping that at the tender age of 11 1/2, she would be spared the "Big C" and we would deal with whatever happened in her old age as needed. But to get this possible diagnosis where she is going to be in pain is almost unbearable to think about.

We just celebrated our first gotcha day in September.

I am just looking for some kind of ballpark timeframe so I can begin to deal with this terrible news.

Thanks for lending me an ear, and any knowledge help would be appreciated.

    Sherrie :cry1

  10. My senior girl has had arthritis since I adopterd her last year. We give her the glucosamine, MSM, chondroitin everyday. But she is getting more stiff with age. She still runs around like a pup during her morning potty break, then moans and groans when she lays down. She is now 11 1/2 and has regained lots of muscletone for a senior since she came her.

I don't want to drug her with pain killers, but do want to make her more comfy. She sleeps on a memory foam bed. And when it is chilly, I always put her nightie on her to sleep. Would it be OK to give her a baby aspirin once a day to help with the arthritis????

Any other ideas to help her out would be greytly appreciated.

  11. Indoors, I use Windex to remove the ant trails scent. Ants do not like the windex and will not cross the stuff. Also, Comet sprinkled outside onto the mounds, and raked into the soil a little, will kill the ants. The stuff sticks to the ants, they lick it off themselves, and each other. Dead ants. It doesnt last long, and must be kept up but it eventually gets the better of the hives.

We live in Texas where fire ants are a big problem. If it rains, since it is so biodegradable, it is just washed away, reapply.

We have traveled extensively, and this method has been listed in the hints in many RV parks around the country.

  12. Gem, don't scare your momma so bad. You wont get any yogurt.

Maria, we all have our toes, fingers, pawsies crossed that Gem in going to be fine!! Sending lots of prayers and healing white lite to her that she gets better, and leaves the shrooms alone in the future.
