    DH just got back from the evet. He's doing well, his gluscose levels didn't get very low and stablilized quickly, so he's back off that. They are taking him off IV fluids. If he tests keeps testing okay, he should be ready to come home at 10pm. We may decide to leave him there for the night, since we are 45 minutes away and I don't want to risk something happening overnight. They said there's no point in retesting the liver values for a couple of days, they weren't that elevated so they don't expect to see them come down probably for a week, so we're keeping him on the support meds until his vet okays taking him off. Somehow our message that he chatters his teeth didn't transfer over night, so when DH got there they were trying to figure out what if he was cold, until he started going crazy when he saw DH, he's my little chatterbox.

    Blood sugar is coming up slowly, which is a good thing, they don't want it to come up to fast. He's resting comfortably but alert, ate his breakfast with gusto. We're going to go to visit as soon as I can get off the floor. If things go well, they'll start to wean him off the sugar drip around 5pm, and he'll stay the night. His liver levels were so near okay there's no point in reachecking until Monday afternoon or Tuesday, but they'll keep him on the medication just in case.

    Henry got into a pudding with Xilotol last night. By the time we realized what was in it and that he'd gotten it, it had been a couple of hours. He got to the evet, poison control said he had eaten just on the edge of enough to be concerned. He's been on monitoring all night w/IV support, but at 7:30 his blood suger check was low so he's on the sugar drip. His liver level was just at the edge of moderate concern, so he's on the supportive meds for that. I'm waiting for them to call with his next blood sugar level check, but I just checked in and he's doing fine.

     

    I feel like the worst mom in the world. I'm changing my own medications and haven't slept more than a few hours in days and can't think straight. I knew Dh brought the wrong product, but I didn't think to tell him to be careful and he didn't realize it could be dangerous. Henry's not Patrick, he hates being at the vet. They keep saying he's perfectly calm but I had to carry him back into the treatment area, he's never going to forgive me for this, he's still mad about last summer when I had to take him to our vet a whole bunch.

    She's having none of the soaking. Standing her in a bucket of water is not working out so well. Can I soak some paper towels with Epson salt and bag her foot, and let her lay in her bed? It's her safe spot.

    She is such a shy, timid, little girl.

    I've done this, it's better than nothing. Would she tolerate standing on her bed while you put her foot in a plastic cup with epson salts & water?

    Patrick grew his fur in mostly, stopped urinating excessively (no messes in the house, just the output was insane), and some aggression issues we were having vanished (he bit me a couple of times, no one else thankfully).

     

    Until we learned they were switching around the generics and moved him over to Soloxine, he would throw up and occasionally snap (still only at me, go figure) until we got him back on track. If I end up with another dog with thyroid issues, I'll go straight to the Soloxine.

    First of all, many vets don't recommend treating in the absence of symptoms beyond hair loss, since lots of greys have hair loss. Personally, I didn't start treating until we saw behavioral issues.

     

    That said, if you're going to treat him, put him on the name brand, Soloxine. In my experience, when you go for the generics, they change them up all the time and it causes all kinds of problems (biting and throwing up in my case). Other people report that the Soloxine is more effective than the generics, even if you can keep him on the same generic all the time.

    Sometimes greys seem to get finicky about eating as they get older, although 6 does seem a tad young to me. Definitly a vet check and a fecal, but if those are all okay he may just want you there when he eats.

    Stop talking to your coworkers about Jake--some people have some very misguided views on pets and some people are just jerks, but you're not going to change their mind, I've certainly learned that.

     

    Sorry you can't do therapy, it's hard having a dog that you know is an absolute sweetheart, but has some issues that can cause problems. Jake is a beautiful boy and he certainly looks pretty thrilled with his life.
