  1. I use it for pumpkin bread, or muffins. The last batch was used entirely by my Whippet. It will last Indefefinitly in The freezer. When I found out the price of pumpkin in stores, I was really glad I had a good amount for my girl. Now that I am finished cleaning, cooking, and bagging it, I am happy my stash it's growing. also I know it is organic, preservative free, and healthy especially for a sick or old dog.

  2. This year we planted lots of pumpkin plants in our garden. Now , we have lots of pumpkins ! My old Whippet needed pumpkin for fiber and digestion, and was lucky to have some stocked up in freezer. She finished it all in the time before she crossed the bridge. I was happy with

our new supply, then realized I have to clean it and cook it all. Have been doing it a few days now and then . Finally finished all of them ! Did 10 over weekend and 8 last ones today. We are ready to add fiber ! Don't want to see another pumpkin for a longggggggggggg time.

  3. Just seeing the post. I have a whippet that basically had the same symtoms. Vomiting, after eating anything. Did the anti nausea stuff, making this a short story. Was told she must have eaten something. I was positive she did not, not like her. They sub Q ed her for the dehydration. She was now staying at the vet. Did Barium test, x-rays. When the barium did not go past her stomach they did endoscopy. BINGO ! Stomach was totally full of H-pylori. Vet was afraid it was going to rupture. No food, on IV. Stopped the vomiting and she came home after 3 dayson all these meds for 2 weeks. Flagyl, Amoxi, Pepcid, Cerenia, Misoprostol, Sucralfate.

I syringed Ensure and baby Pedialite( sp ) is small amounts to keep her alive. In 2 weeks fed her id and very good canned food. Some holistic folks told me to give her 1 tsp. medical Manuka Honey. She got it every day for 6 months. It is a natural antibiotic, and heals the stomach. Also good for acid reflux, ( I tried it ) and swear by it now. Also Mastic gum pills. Google them for the healing information. Put her on total grain free. She is totally cured and a happy and energitic girl.

She get the Manuka Honey about 3 times a week now. It is part of her diet.

Hope I got this information out before it is too late. Sorry about your little whippet. It has been almost 3 years since this happened to mine and she never relapsed.

    Please keep us posted.

  4. The only thing I found that slowed my speed eater was one of the big dog food cans. It fits from one side of the food bowl to the other. Straight across. I put cups, bottles, stones, you name it. They don`t burp as much at all. Was totally surprised how much they slowed down with the big can in the bowl. I take the paper off the can. So I can wash it. Also it is heavy enough so they can`t push it out.

  5. For my 30 # whippet I use "0" capsules. It says (0.68ml ). Don`t know how much that is but it does the job. I just tried the 1/4 tsp and just about 1/2 fit in so probably hold 1/8 tsp. I get the Gelatin caps and do not have a problem. they are fairly cheap. I would think the 00 would be the size for a greyhound then. When filling make sure you push the top down until you feel it lock. Just keep squeezing it you will feel the click,

  6. I give my whippet tylan powder since she has stomach problems for years. she is 15. I buy the capsules on amazon. there is a fast simple capsule filler little plastic thing that fills 50 to once. done is 10 minutes. Cost $10. Cheapest places is Tractor Supply Company or Amazon for the powder . Get both capsules and Tylan Powder in 1 purchase on amazon. Pop it into the back of the mouth and done. Try a few granules of it, it is ungodly awful !!!! Capsules are a life saver.

No need for prescription for the tylan powder.

  7. My Whippet has had a hear murmur since I got her at 14 mo. She is now 14 1/2 yr old. they tell me now it is full blown . For about a yr she is on a blood pressure med ( minimal ). Otherwise she is doing great. Gets tired more, she is getting " old ". Vet said she will probably die from something else not the heart. She takes walks with us, hops around with the younger whippets and thinks she is much younger.

  8. I used sand paper for years then my husband suggested the stone, I think you call it a grinding stone. The rougher the sand paper , my dogs were annoyed and it wore fast. With the grinding stone, they don`t feel as much. It does take down the nails and they are smooth. Never went back to sand paper. After some years am still on the first stone.

  9. Alysmom, I am with you on the Nutro. Was feeding it and had some problems. thought the dogs were off, just like we get sometimes. Read the same site and returned the bag and got a different brand. Yes, the dogs were better and our problems gone. They were having the same problems as the dogs on the site. They were not just off a day or 2. They were getting sick. I personally take note of things I read. Thank you for bringing it to the attention of some people. My vet read it when I told her and she was surprissed it was the same problems we were having.

  10. I tried this the other day. I put 6 chicken legs in the crock pot and left it cooking for 30 hours. Started it on high for about 3 hours then on low. After 30 hours, the meat was falling apart. that was very nice. The leg bones were hard. Why didn`t they get mushable ???? I took the meat out and continued to low cook the bones, They stayed hard. Can you tell me why they did not get mushable .

  11. I have a 14 yr old whippet with a heart problem also. She was always a finicky eater since I got her at 14 mo. Had lots of gastro problems that `s why they gave her up. Anyway, She is holding her weight through thick and thin. Lots of patience goes into keeping her weight. She also has slight dementia and really tries to bury her food not eat it so I have to tap the bowl and remind her. The only way I get her to eat and keep weight is to put lots of good canned food in her wet kibble and mix it well. When she was sick long ago she lived on canned food. She kept her weight also. Good quality canned food can be a total sorce of nurishment . I also found at her age she does not like cold food. If the canned food was in the fridge over night, I put it in the microwave for a few second to make it room temp. Her teeth are great just does not like cold food. Just some thought about a 14 yr old whippet girl.

  12. In the past I had a dog that did not like the dremel. The only one that would never allow it. I filed them with a nail file that you would use on fake nails. I did them often so there would not be a lot of nail to get off. This she would allow. I use the dremel on my dogs on low, as written above , it makes very little noise.

  13. Tricia, I am so very sorry. Miss Bee Wiseman had many friends and was loved by everyone. She is free from pain , you will always have her in your heart. Word cannot say how I feel for you, there are no words to describe the pain of losing one that you love.

  14. 2 out of my 3 hounds are afraid of thunder and shake and hide. I bought 2 thundershirts. Was surprised the first time I used them. They calmed, and layed in their bed. Yesterday we had a thunder storm, put the thundershirts on when I heard the first thunder. They both just acted basically normal. They were aware of the storm. But they did not shake or hide. It may not work on every dog, but it works on my 2.

  15. My dear friend who also had greyhounds a few years back now has a pound pupppy. After she did her nails she needed to use Medistyp stytic powder to stop the bleeding. She did not notice till later the 50# puppy took the rest outdoors and ate it, a little more then a teaspoon. She ate the first day and them has vomited for 2 days. Called the vet and he said it should not be toxic to watch her. I am shocked they said that. Anyone know if this is toxic ?? How bad is it to ingest the nail clotting, stop bleeding, powder ?
