  1. Congratulations BamBam... I miss you tons, big fella, but, I'm so happy for you at the same time. I'll never forget the night you got hurt and I had to take care of you... you were such a champ; never whined, whimpered or anything. Just trusted me to take care of you. Can't wait to see you again, buddy :)

Thanks so much Camille for falling for our boy... he's one of my favorites, for sure.

I'm sure he will be happy to see you too! I never realized how calm he is until the lunatic houseguest, Greta, arrived. He's a smart guy and a quick learner. That little incident with the cat was because everyone got all excited and he chased. He's never done anything like that since. Once he learns something, it sticks.

PLMK ASAP if you hear when GAP day is in the fall at the track. I need to ask for the day off from work months in advance. We had a great time last year and I want to be sure to have the day off and bring everyone! I asked Shirley, and they didn't know yet, so if you hear something, please tell me!

  2. Hi. My name is Deco Barnett. I am called Bam Bam. I ran really fast, then my leg got hurt and I got to stop racing. I spent some time on Mama Caffie's farm and rested while my leg got better, and I got to know Miss Jenn. Then this lady showed up and met me. She liked me, and brought her kids to meet me, then the Daddy. That was back in December. They told Mama Caffie that they would take me home and I would be their "foster", whatever that means. I thought I was doing OK. I repainted a wall a nice shade of yellow, and ate a few of Allison's stuffies. I thought they were mine. There are 2 other girl greyhounds here, and I like them. Finally I got the idea that it's the Daddy's job to repaint the walls, not mine, and I know I'm supposed to repaint the grass and trees instead.

Things were going along fine, I thought. Then one day the Mom told me that she couldn't be my foster mom any more. :(

She told me I was going to have a new name and that someone wanted to adopt me. WHY??? I thought I was a good boy. What's adopted?

Do you think it was because I accidentally bit the cat? He only needed a few stitches to fix it, and I promised I would never do it again!

Sooo, I got taken back to the adoption place. This lady gave me a BATH! I didn't like that. She also cut my toenails.

Anyway, now I have a new name....

Bam Bam Tebow Wagner! My new family LOVES the Florida Gator football team, and they say I remind them of their favorite quarterback Tim Tebow because I like to plow the other dogs out of the way sometimes.

Here's the best part. My new family is my same family! I am very happy here! It took me awhile to write this, because I am new at this typing thing. Here's my pictures so you can see how handsome I am.

    I got my own jacket:

  3. Here's the thing, tho -- some dry skin/dandruff is normal, but sores are not normal .... Haven't found topical that works terribly well, alas.

My Joseph gets along pretty well with fish oil + IAMs adult (green bag), or fish oil + Pinnacle Duck. Fish oil + anything else, we tend to get soup instead of poop.

ETA: The commercial foods that have produced the nicest coats and least dandruffy skin for my dogs are Purina ONE / ProPlan Sensitive Systems (salmon), and Timberwolf Organics Ocean Blue. The Timberwolf also produced a bizarrely large quantity of poop, but it was all nice & firm ....

We currently have him on Taste of the Wild High Prairie. It does so-so for him. I had decided to try to transition him to Blue Buffalo Chicken and Rice, but got instant soup. PLUS we are going out of town for the weekend, so I switched back to TOTW so my neighbor won't have so much soup to deal with.

I think I will try the Purina Proplan Sensitive skin/stomach salmon. That kind of sums him up. I have shied away from it so far because I have heard controversial things about Fish flavored foods and questionable sources of fish. The Timberwolf organics is a little too rich for my wallet.

I'll keep an eye on the sores, but I think they are a one time thing when he was really itchy from all the shedding. He's also new to us and all 3 of mine have blown their coats when they came to live here.

    Maybe he's allergic to cats...

  4. Might have the vet double-check those scabby sores for staph infection.

Show-dog people sometimes use corn or olive oil; fish oil caps seem to go through my flaky dog a bit better. Start slow -- one teaspoon oil or one fish oil cap per day; work up to 2-3. If you don't start slow you might see some liquid poop.

We already have liquid poop. I don't use any oil because of that.

I'm not worried about the sores. They are small, and scabbed over and healing. At first I thought he had a tick, that is the size.

Is there anything topical I can use?

  5. When we got Bam Bam in December we noticed he had some flaky skin. We thought a change of food might help that, and switched him to Canidae Lamb and Rice that the girls ate. His belly didn't tolerate that, and that began the parade of kibble that doesn't seem to agree with him. Off we went to the vet for testing, and everything was negative. We wormed with Panacur just in case.

We use Advantage Multi for HW and fleas.

All 3 dogs have shed their winter coats, and Bam Bam has developed some scabby sores alone his back. His fur is pretty thin along his back too. He likes to rub his back along my bed and itch it. Today I noticed that the flakes are REALLY bad. Big and flaky. When I pulled the hair back I see that the skin is a big flake, and my hand was left with a powdery residue.

He did have a bath a couple of weeks ago, at the adoption kennel.

What to do? Is it diet? Allergy? How can I get rid of the flakes?
