  1. I don't post on here much, I am on Facebook (Camille Wagner) more, and am friends with a lot of you there. I can't post on there right now because my kids don't know the bad news yet. We will tell them tonight.

Mimosa is my first grey, adopted in 2006. She is my heart dog and will be 10 on February 23rd.

She started limping a couple of weeks ago. Took her to the vet today and she was x-rayed and my fears were confirmed. Osteosarcoma in the left femur. (Not a definitive diagnosis, she would need a biopsy for that). I am heartbroken. I won't put her thru amputation and chemo.

We are home now, with Rimadyl and Tramadol to keep her as comfortable as possible until it is time.

    My heart is shattered.

  2. Hi DizzyLu and Jacob! :welcome2

We're in south Mandarin, and have 3 greyhounds, Mimi, Mimosa, and Bam Bam, all adopted thru GAP here in Jax. Actually Mimi and Bam Bam used to race for Mama Caffie. I saw their pictures on Greytalk, and the rest is history! There are also 2 other greyhounds in my neighborhood, Gordy and Odie (owned by different families).

We hope to get together with the group at Mickler's Landing soon too. I work every other weekend, so it's sometimes hard to get to them.

    Camille

  3. Haven't been on GT in awhile and my heart sunk when I saw Ryan on the banner. I'm so sorry for your loss of your beautiful boy. Run Free Ryan.

  4. Mimosa seemed to have gotten the worst teeth of my 3 hounds. Mimi is probably going to need to have hers done pretty soon, the vet said they are still pretty good, but Mimosa needs hers done every year. She's going to be 6 this month. I know everything will go fine, but it's still surgery.

Please say a prayer for her tomorrow (Friday) morning.

    Thanks!

  5. It looks like Mimi has one too. We're trying Bee Propolis, as suggested by Dione, and covering it with a bandaid. She's figured out how to tripod walk on hard surfaces, and does fine on 4 legs on carpet and grass. She's limiting her walks herself. I just found some "pet boot's that I had squirreled away that someone sent me. I put one of those on her with a paper towel stuffed in it for cushioning. we'll see how that goes.

  6. what does a corn look/feel like? Is it easy to find? Mimi started limping today and biting at her back foot, then later she started holding the foot up. I looked, but couldn't find anything, except a discolored part on one of her toe pads.

  7. My dad and my friend helped us out and I just got home from taking Lola to Rudy's vet in Jacksonville. The practice doctors are the track vets, so they are very greyhound savvy. She is on IV fluids and meds and we will bring her home tonight. They will show me how to administer the bags through a needle in her leg. (Julie I may have to call you again...lol.) We should have taken her here to start with but it's quite a distance from home plus our old vet has been so good to Lola through the years (her dog attack, eye surgery, etc.) We should know more later today. Thank you everyone for your support.

That's who I go to and they are very good. Dr. Nash owns the practice and the other doctors are Dr McMillian and Dr Neihaus.

    Hope she gets well soon!

Edited because I saw your post on FB!

  8. My vet sent a letter recommending the Canine Flu shot. It's a 2 series shot. They are requiring it for all dogs who board there (which we don't). My vet has been pretty conservative with vaccinations. They did not recommend the "dental vaccine" that my last vet was pushing..

I took Bammy in last week for his annuals, and got it for him. The girls are due for their shots (except for rabies, they got the 3 year variety), and I will probably get it for them, since we will be going to GAP Day in a couple of weeks and will be around hundreds of greys.

One of the nurses I work with is also part-owner in a veterinary practice, and she said they are NOT recommending the vaccine, as there are very few incidences in the US and so far none here in town.
