Just curious. Why does Diamond brand dog food have such a bad rep. I did some research on dog foods (will hopefully be adopting a grey in the spring) and found that Diamond Naturals is rated highly. They do have some recalls, but so do Purina, Iams, and other dog foods. Also, isn'g 4 Health dog food made by Diamond?

I'm trying to find a good quality kibble that's inexpensive. That is why Diamond Naturals came out on top for me. I'd just like to hear by so many people on this board don't like Diamond.

Diamond has had numerous recalls and made many dogs sick. They use poor sanitary practices and cut corners past were corner cutting is acceptable. I would like to say I hope the last recall has been a big wake up call, but the previous one didn't seem to do anything.

But for the money, I think it is a decent choice for people on a budget. I like 4 Health better than Diamond Naturals though. I got a bag of the grain free beef 4Health to try, but haven't opened it yet

4Health is made by Diamond. It's the line they make specifically for Tractor Supply. The Kirkland food that many people use is also made manufactured by Diamond for Costco. I know a lot of greyhound people who feed the Costco food with good results.

You'll find that a lot of people don't like various foods and companies for one reason or another. Use your own judgement and common sense and do what you feel is best for your situation. I've been feeding the regular Kirkland food for the last 3-4 years with no problems. And I fed Purina ProPlan and Sam's Club Exceed (also made by Purina at the time) before that. Both made by companies that a lot of people don't like.

I feed the Kirkland also for all my dogs except for Zubin, and have for several years. Its a great food, same 4 star rating as Blue Buffalo but half the price. ( Zubin now eats Natures Receipe Senior)

I am glad to see that tractor supply finally got on the boat and now have their own food. Its also coming up as well at 4 stars. While it costs more than the Kirkland, its nice to see the have their own brand.

Diamond had a few problems with one perticular plant in SC some time back, causing many of the problems with their food. Then again- so did Blue Buffalo have a recall as well due to too much vitamin D in as an error on a large batch number.

With any foods, just keep on the look out for recalls posted by either the FDA or the food maker themselves. Most recalls Diamond had were voluntary verses other foods having recalls as done by the mandatory.

Ok, thanks for all the balanced info. After all my research trying to find a high quality dry dog food that is inexpensive, Diamond Naturals seemed to be the best bet. Of course, bottom line, it's the dog that will ultimately choose.

We feed the Kirkland grain free called Natures Domain. We fed iams for a year and Enzo started turning his nose up at it so we switched. He loves the Natures Domain and the amount of gas he has has decreased dramatically.

We didn't have the best results feeding Diamond Naturals. Poops were always hit or miss. Sometimes fine, sometimes huge and runny with an orange color. :puke After their last big recall, I switched to Iams because our Tractor Supply wasn't selling it for a period of time. I don't think Diamond is a bad food or a bad company per se, we just didn't have any luck with it.

That is why I don't like Diamond Naturals. The dogs never had good poop on it and had to eat a lot of it to maintain weight. Only formula I liked with the Beef and it is super hard to find. The feed store would special order it, but I never remember to call a head so that never works for me.

I am not a big fan of Diamond products, but for the price, I will give the 4 Health grain free a try since it is chicken free and $20 cheaper a bag than what Casper is eating now. I used to feed Professional and Premium Edge a long time ago and they were both Diamond products and the dogs did well on them, but they are hard to find anymore too. TOTW never worked to well and I don't have a Costco close by. But the dogs do like 4Health can food and for $1/can it is cheaper than most. Although I got a few cases of Pro Plan, Iams, and Authority at Petsmart when they were all on sale $1/can.

Thanks for telling me this. There is a Tractor Supply not from me but I hardly go in there. I feed Costco dog food but Costco is an hour ago. I may have to try the Tractor Supply food in a pinch.

I feed Diamond with good poops and my dogs are constantly getting praised for fur qaulity and physical condition. Every company out there is going to have some sort of bad thing said about them.. Im going to hope that nothing happens again but personally I give Diamond 2 thumbs up!

Thanks. I'm just going to try Diamond Naturals and see how everything goes.

Hey, I notice that you are from Plymouth. I'm from RI and will hopefully be adopting from one of the groups from Mass. Where did you adopt your greys?

How on earth did I miss GPA of Mass?! If you only knew how many searches I've done--this one never came up. Thanks! I'll check it out.

I met some people from Amazing Greyz about a year ago at the pet expo in Providence--they are, I think, the closest to where I live, but we were also considering GRNE and recently visited the Greyhound Friends kennel.

I'm looking for a rescue that's close to us, but also had a great support system, etc. We'll be hopefully adopting our first greyhound in the spring. :ghplaybow
