KF_in_Georgia
I think it's that some water on the back isn't terrible (but maybe is not as helpful as on other parts of the body). But you don't want lots of water on the back trapping heat in the body; you want air to get to the skin to help evaporate the water and cool the skin. Water on chest, thighs, belly runs off. Water on the back sorta sits there. And getting water into an area with large veins will help cool faster, which is why chest, belly, and thighs are popular. Also, the soles of the feet. Just getting the dog to stand in cooler water will help. Quote Kathy and Q (CRT Qadeer from Fuzzy's Cannon and CRT Bonnie) and Jane (WW's Aunt Jane from Trent Lee and Aunt M); photos to come. Brindles
No water on the back unless the dog will be moved to the shade. KF_in_Georgia
And get the dog to the vet as quickly as possible. Doesn't matter if you've gotten your dog cooled down. If your dog's temperature went over 104F, get the dog to the vet. There are additional complications (abdominal/intestinal issues) and shock that can result from excessive heat.
