Guest mpportraits
Hi all! My Nina (10) is very serious about retirement and likes to lay around in her crate all day. With winters here so brutal, her only excercise in the winter is running outside to pee and chasing her "sister" Phoebe(5) my other grey. Now the weather is getting nice and I want to get Nina walking. The last couple days I took her out, she kind of hobbles in the front. I checked out both legs which are fine. The vet was just here and checked her over & did blood work, all is fine. Could this just be stiff muscles and will the walks help or hurt her? thanks guys! Guest mbfilby
look closely at her toes, pads and nails. Could be the start of a corn?
Guest mpportraits
what does that look like?
OwnedBySummer
My guess would be possibly the beginning of corns, too. Quote Lisa B. Guest GreysAndMoreGreys
Also if she is not used to walking on pavement, concrete or other hard surfaces her pads could be a bit tender. Just like humans they will toughen up over time. Just think of yourself, in winter we don't walk around much barefoot but come spring and summer the shoes are off and it takes a bit of time to not be so tender footed again
Guest mpportraits
i just looked at her paws and they look great except there was a little bit of a hard spot on the outside of her right paw, on one of her toes. i felt the other side and that wasn't there. would this be the problem? Guest mbfilby
A corn usually looks like a round circle on the pad surface. Like a plantar wart. It is hard to say if the hard spot on your pups toe is the problem. Is this the leg she is favoring? I'd have the vet take another look. Guest greytchloe
When my dog's corn first started, nobody saw it until we were at the orthopedic specialist office (after many regular vet appts), and he didn't see it at first either. I find that they are much more visible when the paw is wet/soaked. Good luck!
Guest Soso
Our Sophie had a hard spot on one of her front pads. When I picked at it she didn't seem to like it. She didn't have any pain walking though. I asked the vet and she said it might be a wart and said she would look into it. I forgot about it and I guess so did she as this was not the reason for the visit. She did however favor the grass after walking on the sidewalk for a little bit. I figured her pads just weren't toughened up yet. She never limped though or showed any kind of pain. Hope this helps???

Guest Babs
Could it be a little arthritis in her legs or knees? And she's 10! We all know how brutal this winter has been on our bones...think about our poor hounds! Maybe your vet would recommend giving your grey glucosamine condroitin to help with the cartilage...Something to check into!
Guest mpportraits
that's what i'm wondering babs cause i don't see anything corn-ish on her pads. i bought some glucosamine at petsmart yesterday, so hopefully that will work. thanks guys!!
