Housetraining Limited To One Area

For various reasons we keep Angie restricted to the kitchen and den (which are adjacent), and she doesn't have any accidents there. She's had a problem adjusting to a new food and we need to keep a close eye on her. The few times she snuck out, she had an accident. Usually in the same area. We would soak up the urine as much as possible then use Nature's Miracle. She is on a schedule (6:30am walk, 8:30 feed, 9am, 1pm, 5pm potty breaks, 5:30pm feed, 6pm potty break, 10pm walk) and is crated at night. We have a large house. Should we do it room-by-room?

Yes. Or at least, when you let her into other rooms, keep an eye on her. If she acts like she's looking for a spot or starts to squat, cheerful "Let's go out!" and whisk her straight outside. Normally you don't have to do every last room -- just until she gets the idea that your house is inside, and outside is outside. :) My Joseph kinda liked new vertical objects when he first met them :lol but with a little supervision and practice he learned very quickly.

Thank you. Today I realized my mom needs to be supervised so she doesn't let Angie sneak out of the safe area. :lol Perhaps my hubby finally understands why I don't want her to have full run of the house yet.

A cheap baby gate or two that you can move from doorway to doorway is a great investment. I use them to keep a new dog in a room with me as I move around the house to different tasks. Some folks also use "leash bonding" -- keeping the dog attached to you by leash -- but I find that more cumbersome.

Also, I notice that you dont take her out immediately after she eats, this is something that you should probably do as if you feed them on a schedule, they will have to eliminate about the same time each day after eating (24hours approx). What time do you get up? She should be taken out as soon as you get up, no waiting.
