Guest BiancasMom
My 4 year old female Greyhound began limping 2 weeks ago after one of her runs in the yard. I am always with her when she runs and she never cried out, slipped or seemed in any distress. Afterwards i took her with me to my parent's house and when i got her out of the car to go for a walk, she was limping. She has been limping ever since. I tried 10 days of rest and Rimadyl but she had not improved so i took her to the vet. She thinks she may have Supraspinatus tendonitis. We took xrays of her shoulders, elbows, radius, ulnas and toes. The xrays are awaiting review from a board certified radiologist but there was nothing obvious. Neither I, nor the vet could elicit any pain during exams but she was obviously more lame after the vet palpated her. I am told she needs an ultrasound or an MRI to help isolate where the problem is. I will most likely have a consult with the surgeon before this just to get his opinion. My question is, has anyone else gone throught this with their grey? I had never heard of it until recently when a friend's dog went through the same thing. (that dog is a blue heeler though). I am hopeful she just needs more rest but nothing ever seems simple when it comes to my animals! :-) To treat the condition, I'm told there is a surgical option and possibly an option where they inject the area with a steroid. Either way it is atleast 6 weeks more rest. She is going a little stir-crazy!

Burpdog
Check her feet as Batmom said. If nothing shows on xray, I'd go to an alternative vet. Quote Diane & The Senior Gang Burpdog Biscuits
Guest BiancasMom
Yes, we have checked her feet, toes, everything. Her pads and toenails all look great. Apparently this is the 2nd most common shoulder injury in dogs. Similar to a rotator cuff injury in people I'm told. The xrays will help rule out bone involvement but ultrasound and/or MRI will help to see if it is a tendon/muscle injury.
