brandimom
Does anyone have a dog that has gout? If so what were the signs and treatment. I got an email from someone in our group that thinks their grey has gout but she did not give me any other details. Thanks.
Jiffer
Never heard of it. Has the dog been seen by a vet? Was this the diagnosis? turbotaina
We had a returned dog that was believed to have gout. Turned out it was a type of cancer at the thyroid gland. We held her in foster care for a year and she recently passed away. Has the dog been seen by a vet? Quote Meredith with Heyokha (HUS Me Teddy) and Crow (Mike Milbury). brandimom
I don't have a lot of information except I know that she is taking the dog to a non-grey savy vet (we have tried pointing her in the direction of a grey savy vet) and I know there are numerous tests that have been done. Right now she is SELF diagnosing the dog per a conversation she had with her sister who is a chiropractor (go figure). The dog has not been diagnosed by a vet. She told her sister the symptoms and the sister said sounds like gout.
turbotaina
Ah, hang on - I was confusing gout and goiter. The dog returned to us was initially thought to have a goiter, but it was adenocarcinoma. Regarding gout, it's apparently rare in dogs and is more likely to present in dogs that have a history of hip dysplasia (which you wouldn't see in greyhounds). They may want to look at immune mediated polyarthritis which does occur in greyhounds. Quote Meredith with Heyokha (HUS Me Teddy) and Crow (Mike Milbury).
