Something Strange

My sweet boy Moses, came up to me and he was shivering pretty badly and panting. He was also whiney. I took him to the vet and they could find nothing wrong with him other than tenderness in his lower tummy. Normal temperature and everything else. I did have them do an x-ray just to be on the safe side. I could envision him getting worse over the weekend and ending up at the e-vet, which is KNOT my favorite place.

The vet also thought, at first, it could have been a mild seizure, but after finding the tenderness in his tummy, he thinks it may just be intestinal discomfort and is having me give him pepcid. Has anybody ever encountered something like this before? I'm really puzzled.

After my experience, I will never let my dogs leave the Vet's office without complete blood work.

Is he eating? Drinking? Peeing? Pooping? Is there any vomiting? Is the color of his urine normal? Has the Pepcid helped? Is he still shivering and panting? Hope this all resolves itself soon.

Sending prayers for Moses!

How is he now?

Zema had an incident like this once. She had some gas in her innards (seen on x-ray) but wasn't bloating, got some pain meds, and after a few hours she was fine.

The x-rays came out fine. No signs of bloat or blockage. He didn't have vomiting or diarrhea, but the shivering and panting really worried me. I gave him the pepcid and he seems to be fine today.

I may have over-reacted, but I had never seem him or any other of my dogs do that, and I would rather be safe than sorry, especially with the weekend coming up.

Thanks for thinking about my sweet boy. He's my gentle giant, 30" tall at the withers and 89 pounds, plus he's looooong.

I just went through this the other night with my big boy Lucky. He was acting lethargic and wouldn't get up on the bed which he loves. Then sometimes when I would touch him in no specific place, he would whimper. He had vomited some grass and stomach bile the night before but nothing after that. Appetite was as good as usual and going to the bathroom as usual. Then he started this uncontrollable shaking in his front legs. It was so bad that it made the dishes in my hutch vibrate. Then the panting started. I know about bloat and so many of his symptoms pointed to that so I took him to the e-vet at 11:00 Thursday night and they said basically that it was gas and some fecal matter but didn't look to be a blockage. Blood tests looked good. So they gave him some non-narcotic pain meds and told him to take femodadil to help coat and sooth his stomach. He seems a little better but not back to him old self. He just seems really lethargic today even though he is no longer taking the pain meds since 8:00 this morning. I didn't want him to take it unless he needed it. He hasn't acted as though he is in pain. I have had him outside walking today to help get his bowels moving. Maybe I am over reacting but I'm just worried about my big guy.

Please say prayers for my baby that he will be ok. I lost two elderly dogs in less than a year and Lucky and his new sister Sadie were sent to me to help to ease the loss. Lucky will be with me 1 year on March 22, 2009. I'm the one who is Lucky.

This happened with Bloo once, when he was coming down with gastroenteritis. Antibiotics and Pepcid cleared it up, but he was pretty miserable the first couple of days.

:getwell Feel better soon, big guy! :getwell

I am glad your baby is doing better today! :) Whenever our Angel LaceyLaine had a flare up with her pancreatitis she would start shaking.
