Strange Throat Noise Etc. - Any Ideas?

Background first -- Jake is 10 years old and we got him when he was 2. He is still eating, playing etc. but is losing some body mass in his hip area. I am calling the vet next week for an appt.

Anyway, he makes this very odd throat sound. He seems like he is yawning or yacking but this "old man icky" sound comes out. Any ideas??? :huh

His teeth are really nasty and his breath has gotten very bad very quickly. Another reason for the vet visit.

Help!

Cody age 13 started with very raspy sounds from his throat and it has been diagnosed as Laryngial paralysis, his larynx is paralized on both sides. We have opted not to have surgery done, but keep him in a comfortable temperature, heat and cold are not good for him and makes him raspier and he ends up panting a lot. He's perfectly fine because we keep him in the house at even temps and just let him out to potty.

Thank you! I am looking up some info now online so I am prepared for the vet. I definately think it is something that needs immediate treatment of some sort.
