Thank you for asking. There is still no confirmation about what is exactly going on with Willie. He is not on any pain meds as of now and is not showing any signs of a limp. All of his fungal screenings came\back negative, as I think I mentioned before. I now have him on many supplements including antioxidants, phosphorous, Salmon Oil and a high fat, low carb diet (with an occasional Burpdog--Wow! what is the secret ingredient everyone went crazy-- a huge thank you to Claudia).

I am feeling so confused as to whether or not to proceed with the amputation. Though I have gone through this before, the symptoms and recommendations were much more clear cut with my others. I really do not want to amputate and then find out it was not osteo. This is tearing me apart.

I know Loca had a similar situation. I am wondering how often this type of situation occurs. Thank you all again for all of your good thoughts and support.

With so much experience here Lora, I'm hoping someone can advise you. Do you have any direction from Dr C? Or the oncologist at Tustin? For you Willie :kiss2 I've read here where people refer to Diane's treats as "doggy crack" Must be something to that!!

Found a little bit of starter information about VF here: http://www.vfce.arizona.edu/VFID-diagnosis.htm Not sure how up to date it is, but I think it covers the basics. Sending prayers for Willie.

Lora.....not sure if you saw this part from the above link:

Sometimes tests are negative early in the infection, especially the Valley Fever blood test, and they may need to be repeated in 3-4 weeks to establish the diagnosis. In difficult cases, the routine tests are not very helpful in the diagnosis. Your veterinarian may recommend other tests to find out what is making your dog sick. These tests are often more definitive:

  • Culture of fluid or tissue samples from your dog to isolate and identify the fungus; this is highly specific
  • Microscopic examination of cell, fluid, or tissue samples to visualize fungal organisms and inflammation in your dog

When Jenny (Shantismom) was dealing with Shanti's issues, I believe her first test came back negative. Would your vet be against testing again?
