Guest MomofCash
Perhaps I'm imagining this, but I seem to recall a discussion about Greys eating dirt and it being the result of a vitamin deficiency? Am I imagining this ?

For the longest time I couldn't figure out how our water bucket kept getting so nasty and then I learned Saint was snacking in the yard and cleaning his teeth in the bucket. He now wears a stool guard in his muzzle. ahicks51
Oddly, the word "nutrition" appears nowhere on the main page in the Merck Veterinary Manual addressing "the weird things dogs eat," including pica (consumption of dirt): http://www.merckvetmanual.com/mvm/index.js...m&word=pica We had this one spot in the yard where the dogs would continuously eat the mud there. No apparent reason why. Nothing dropped there, nothing placed there, nothing spilled there. So I fenced it in. That would have been last winter. I removed the fence maybe 2-3 weeks ago, thinking the problem had surely gone away by now. I looked out the back door a day or two later... to find one of the dogs eating the dried dirt in that same spot. D'OH! Batmom
Periodically, all of my greyhounds have eaten dirt. Who knows why. Just something irresistible about it. The whippet, never. Guest whatahound
Gee Gee is my dirt eater. I have to watch her very closely, if not I'm cleaning mud out of her nose and mouth. Not a fun task for either of us. I wish I knew why she did it.
Guest KansasGrey
Magnus will try to sneak a bite of mud on our walks. I've never seen him eat dry dirt.
