Guest MomofSweetPotatoes
Thank you all for your kind words. It's really comforting knowing you are there. Here's the story of how Gus came to live with us. Gus came to live with us on July 8th of 1999. How we got him was a unique situation. A friend of ours (Ed) knew we had a greyhound, our first greyhound, Chip. Ed came by the house one day and said, "Are you interested in another greyhound?" "A friend of mine has a kennel here in town and one of his really good racers is too old to rehab from a minor injury" Mark and I, without discussion said "Sure, we'd love to meet him" Ed called us the next day (July 8th) and said "Whenever you want to see the dog, let me know" We said, "how about now?" Ed gave us the kennel address and with our spare collar and leash in hand off we went to the kennel to meet Ed (and Gus). Ray, the kennel owner came to the end of the driveway with this very large and gorgeous red and white boy. His kennel name was Padre, however, one look at him and we knew his name was Gus. Gus retired because at 4.5 years old, he had a dropped muscle. We slipped a martingale on Gus just to take him for a test walk. Well, during the walk he climbed in the car, so we drove him the 10 minutes back home. Once home, we realized several things. We weren't ready for Gus, as we were only going to "meet" him. We didn't have a dish, a collar to call his own, a crate or a bed to call his own, or an I.D. tag. Nor did we have him and Chip meet before bringing him home. We did EVERYTHING WRONG. Well, we had Chip and him meet outside and all was well. So, once Gus got a bath, in the house he came. He went into Chip's room, found a bed and instantly roached. He knew he was home. And as they say, the rest was history. Thank you again Kerri and Mark with Doug, Battle and Yardman.
