Xylitol - Deadly For Dogs

Recommended Posts

A friend from Atlanta sent me this news clip because she knows we have 3 dogs now. Ironically, if you Googlesearch for Xylitol, it's touted by dentists and all sorts of folks as good for us because it doesn't promote tooth decay. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Here Xylitol is raved about as a sugar substitute.

It's my understanding that any artificial sweetener is poisonous to dogs. Not too good for us either. (Although I do have to have my one Diet Coke every morning.)

Greyhound angels at the bridge- Casey, Charlie, Maggie, Molly, Renie, Lucy & Teddy. Beagle angels Peanut and Charlie. And to all the 4 legged Bridge souls who have touched my heart, thank you. When a greyhound looks into you eyes it seems they touch your very soul.

And oddly enough, even tho it's a sugar SUBSTITUTE, people with type I diabetes shouldn't consume it either! It actually raises blood sugar values! Same with all substitutes ending in -tol:

mannitol, sorbital, xylitol, and I bet there are others out there.
