  1. Almost all of us who share our lives with corn dogs have therapaws. I swear by them for their cushioning and ease of use. They also seem to last a good while. We do on average two miles a day and I usually need to replace the boot after six-nine months because Inu's toenail is starting poke out.

Be sure to get two though so she can't just hop on three legs and not use the booted foot.

  2. Yep, read through the whole list a few times. Both my babies are there. Note to sef vet wrap Inu's front feet before the fun run on Friday.

I do see a lot of dogs we rehomed there. This is very informative, I giggled when I saw Ventura (a big goofy boy) was injured because he jumped on the turn out fence. I hadn't read it before because of who created it but I am glad I finally did read through it.

  3. Though I haven't used old IV bags before I imagine it is just a more secure/firm plastic baggie. If that theory of mine is correct than just throw some water and epsom salts in the IV bag then put it on the floor and ask Jetstar to be patient while you soak her feet for five minutes or so.

I am by no means a source of knowledge about these things. I am still searching for the perfect remedy. I've been in the hulling then abreva camp but that ain't working for us. So I'm starting a new "protocol" that is a bit of a few theories that have been posted including the use of kerasolv to soften the pad and dr. scholls corn remover and probably bee propolis...who knows really.

Good luck convincing Jetstar to stand still for a foot bath.

  4. I am also wondering whether an UNMEDICATED Dr Scholl's corn patch might help. They look like little donuts -- I am guessing they may take the pressure off the center of the corn/area that was hulled.

We did that early on and the sticky stuff adhered to the pad and when we removed it some of his pad skin came with it. I don't recommend that. Go with the therapaws for padding and yes buy a second one to give him symmetry and to give him no choice but to use both feet for walking. He can't "fake" it by limping on the paw wearing the therapaw.

One of the theories out there about corns, besides the bacterial thing and thus treatment with Abreva, is that greys don't have as much padding in their, well, pads as "other" dogs. The corn is thus a result of rubbing inside their pad. If he's missing a toenail he MAY and I only say MAY be rubbing funny when he walks on that foot.

Corns suck! Some go away with treatment some never go away and you just maintain. Good luck.

  5. It's a craps shoot to put it bluntly.

Baby boy Inu really should have frequently flyer miles. And one day I swear I'm going to come home from work and DH is going to tell me he and Dr. Collins met up for happy hour because they spend so much time together bonding over the latest Inu issue.

Sweet Salem on the other hand has only seen the vet for her wellness visit.

    Knock on wood

  6. OK I have to chime in here because VPI just peeved me a bit. I applied for full coverage including cancer rider for Salem the minute we adopted her. I learned the hard way about pre-existing conditions with Inu.

Anyway, I just got a letter from them last week (we applied in November) They want to know where her vet records are for the past four years. WHAT? She's a retired racer do you expect me to go to Seabrook and get this info? So I am now going to call them back and explain what she did the last four years of her life. IDIOTS.

    Rant off.

Other than the major MAJOR loops they make you jump through they do seem to do a nice job of reimbursement. For Inu, our month vet appointment boy, they still cover part of his corn treatments!

And honestly at the end of the day there is this little Murphy's Law bug that just likes to know we have it, just in case.

  7. He's a dog I never knew but he's so important to greyhounds. Knowing he has passed leaves me very sad.

Over 9000 offspring. And the grandsire of my two and how many thousands more. His influence is ever lasting.
