Our Tess came to us at 2 1/2 with a soft cast still on her leg from a racing broken hock and it healed with no problem. She is 9 now and has had no problems with it. She runs and jumps and doesn't limp .

Tess had 2 toes amputated and some questionable spots on her tummy removed and all together it was less than half than than.

You are right that it is in the soil. It is a fungal infection caused by migatory bird droppings. I am grew up in Michigan and went to Tennessee every summer when I was little, both states are right in the flight path of the birds. I didn't know dogs could have it but I have it. I have it in one lung. Mine is in remission at this time.

When Tess came home after her surgery we put a sock over the bandage to keep her from chewing and to protect the bandages for the grass and dirt from outside and since it was the first part of Dec. it was really wet so that helped with that also. She was back to running in the yard even before the bandages were completely off. She still hasn't slowed down and that was over a year ago and you would never know they were missing if you don't look at her feet. Good luck and hope you have as good a recovery as we did.

Tess had 2 toes removed due to tumors on the knuckles. One on right front foot and one on left rear foot. The rear toe was the second from the outside. She did great and no they weren't C but to be sure we took them off as the tumors surrounded the bones. Both were taken up high so they wouldn"t splay. She is fine and you wouldn't even know it to watch her walk or run.

Bonnie, I know nothing about osteo except what I have read here so no experience , but wanted you to know that I am thinking of you and do often. You and everyone are in my prayers at this terrible time. Please know you are in our hearts.

We have Polo who is very storm sensitive and after 3 yrs figured out it isn't the storm itself that bothers her, it's the barometric pressure that actually gets to her. She starts pacing and panting about an hour before the storm signs are really upon us. We use melatonin and it calms her enough that she just sleeps through it without being stoned. The way we discovered this was going to the mountains and the change in altitude upset her, just like when your ears pop. Melatonin also helps a little with that and benadryl is another one that helps but is zaps her so I really don't like using it. Just a thought that maybe this is what is going on with your pup.

Try 3 MG of Meltaonin when the barometric pressure changes. It may not be thunder at all but change in the pressure BEFORE the storm even gets there. I have one that is very sensitive to the pressure, so bad we can't take her on any trip because of the mountains around us. Yep we use Melatonin. She is sensitive to things like lawnmowers and trimmers and noisy things but the fireworks don't bother her. Now go figure that one out. There was an article not long ago on Melatonin for seizure pups. If you are interested in it PM me and I'll send it.

Moose are slow moving and have very bad eye sight. They are very unpredictalbe as well. Jeff I am so sorry that you couldn't see the beauty of Wyoming. Of course that's all in the eyes of the beholder. Have a safe and exciting trip and enjoy yourselves.

My Tess is missing 2 toes and it hasn't slowed her down abit. I did put a sock over the bandage to keep her from taking the bandage off and that seemed to work. If I remember correctly it was about 2 or 3 weeks and everything was healed and she is fine. Of course she is a drama queen and milked it for all it was worth. Yeah it worked. She got all the sympath she could handle. Good Luck. All will be fine.

I use Coppertone for Babies in the spray form on mine. Tess has had several spots removed before I found out about using it. She hasn't had any since. She is my sun godess and with a doggie door it's impossible to keep her inside. That's what my Vet recommended.

Everything crossed here and lots of prayers. I keep watching this and hoping and now darn it I have to go to work. Will still have everything crossed though. Hoping for good news when I get home.

Yes skin cancer is a diffinate consideration in white pups. I have 2 girls and use Coppertone for Kids spray SPF 50 . It works. Tess has had numerous spots removed from her tummy and some but not all were cancerous. We didn't have any last year because of the sunscreen.

Tess had two toes removed at the same time, one on right front and one on left back. She was walkiing on both before the stitches was out and ran on them as soon as the stiches were out. She only limped as long as the bandages were on and twice she took them off her self.

Here in Idaho mine started shedding about a month ago, of course we already have spring fowers blooming.

Tess lost two toes and about as soon as the stitches came out she forgot to limp and look sad. We just kept socks on her feet until the bandages came off , to keep them dry. It was in Dec. that she lost them. She doesn't even miss them. They were removed at the same time.

What she said about stuffing it down her throat. That works easiest for us. Fast and simple. If she tries to bite fold her top lip over her teeth and she won't even think about biting.

They usually rub it off throughout the day on the grass. I just spray it on the tummy and nose and leave it. Most of the time I apply it twice a day because Tess is such a bathing beauty. She will go sun no matter the temp and stay about a 1/2an hour then come back in. That seems to work for her. By the way she is white and brindle. I use the spray because it is easier to apply and she will even move her leg for me to get to her tummy.

Yep, that looks like it. Our Tess likes to tan on all 4 sides and her belly gets pretty red and we have had to have spots removed from the tummy area , that could have been skin cancer, thank goodness they weren't yet. Now we use kids coppertone in the spray can. Works like a champ. No surgeries for 2 years now. So we think it's great stuff. She thinks we're nuts spraying her belly but she really doesn't mind.

Welcome to GT. I have one that had 2 toes removed just before Xmas. Real Drama Queen and I put socks over her bandages to go outside . That seemed to work for her. She was fine in about a month and doesn't even seem to miss the toes. By the way she is very busy being the fun police for the other 2 hounds. It was the front outside toe on the right foot and the left back foot inside toe.

I have asked a company that sells Tea Tree Oil ( Pure Liquid Gold) about using it on dogs and they do NOT recommend it because it shouldn't be ingested. The site you might try is teatreeoiluses.com. I found lots of information for uses on there but the I called the company and they said no for dogs.
