  1. We just went through that with Jasper and he spent 4 days in the hospital.  They had us feed chicken with mashed potatoes and Boiled hamburg with the fat skimmed off with rice.  He lost about 12 pounds but is now on his way back to normal.  He is now eating his regular food and doing well.  He still tries to get what ever he can food the table but he gets No fat.  The hardest was not to give his his string cheese.  He loves that stuff.

  2. How is King doing today. Tess didn't get sick every time she drank at first and we have no idea how long the problem actually was on going. She had a history of bad teeth so that's why we thought her weight loss was happening. She lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks. That's why we had a dental scheduled for her. Six months before that she was fine and there was no indication of anything.

  3. My Tess did that and we thought the same as all you guys. Turned out we were very wrong. She has two tumors in her lungs.

She would still play and eat greyt but I would catch her panting and laying down very slowly. She would stop panting when she saw me looking at her. We took her to the vet and were getting ready for a dental. They did xrays and called us to come down and talk to the vet. She one tumor the size of a grapefruit and the other smaller. There was nothing they could do for her so she didn't come home. Still miss the beautiful girl. She 11years old. Scares the day lights out of me when I hear of others doing this. That was really her only symptom.

  4. I have an almost 11 year old girl that has Hemoangiomas. She has had about 17 removed over the last

few years and they always come back benign. My vet now worrys about removing more as they just keep

coming back. He is worried that the skin is getting to tight to stitch. She likes to sun so kiddie

Coppertone is a life saver. It doesn't really prevent them but does seem to lessen them. I also found

that when Ifind one if I put Arnica Gel on it twice a day they will often disappear without surgery. When one breaks open I put Arnica on a piece of gauze and then wrap her with vet wrap to hold it in place. Her chest is very deep so it will all slip back and then you just wash it with warm water and apply a new bandage. She isn't to happy about the new girdle but doesn't bother it. Hope this might

    help with that worry.

  5. I use children's Coppertone in the spray on Tess and have about 5 years with no trouble at all. She is the sunbathing diva. I'm talking sunning all 4 sides all summer long. It cuts down on her Hemoangiomas but doesn't completely stop them. I think in the 9 years we've had her we have had about 17 removed and they just keep coming back. The vet doesn't know why.

  6. Tess just had 7 removed last week. The Vet says they are beign hemagonias. Altogether we have had about 17 removed from Tess stomach and chest area. She is doing fine and goes back 28th to have the stitches removed. She will be 11 in Sept. She also had to toes removed because of beign tumors around the bones. She did well with that as well. She is on Antibiotic for another 2 days and then she's finishes with that.

  7. I use it for Polo who is pressure sensetive, she knows a storm is coming up to an hour before it gets here. Even if there is no thunder or lightning. When she starts panting and pacing I give her one. In fact she will come and ask for it. I'll say do you need a pill and she goes to the med cabinet and looks up and waits for it.

Here is an article about Melatonin that I went by as to the amount and times.

I found a lot of good information in it and thought you might be interested in it and just maybe it might help.

  8. I have a dog that is very sensitive to pressure changes (storms coming, altitude changes) and Melatonin works for her.

I also have an article that I don't remember where I got it from but it tells how Melatonin works and the doseage amounts plus all the things it helps. I don't know how to post the link to it so if someone who does will e-mail I will send it to you so you can post it to help others. It is surprising how it works, at least for us.

  9. We realized it was the pressure for Polo when we took her to the mountains and she acted the same way as BEFORE a storm. She starts panting and shaking about an hour before there is any thunder or anything else except the feeling in the air that a storm is coming. When we would go to the mountains we had to do the Melatonin just like at home before a storm. Wayne finally figured out it must be the pressure when his ears pluged and finally did that poping thing. It started for him about the same time it did for Polo. We don't take Polo to the mountains any more.

I have also found that she will pick her safe spot and lay and shake and if I cover her will a light blankey that it helps her also. She snuggles down in it and settled quicker.

    Hope this helps some.

  10. I have a girl that has this and I found that Melaonin 1 mg. works wonders along with her safe space. You can give them up to 3 mg's but I found that one is enough for Polo. It just clams her down and doesn't make a zombie out of her. She has problems with the barametric pressure so it isn't just the storms that get to her. We know they are coming an hour before they get her. You can get it almost anywhere. I get mine at the health food store. Hope this will help.

  11. Tess just had her dental last Friday and lost 9 incissors, top and bottom. She still has a couple left and her had rimadyl the night she came home and hasn't needed any since. She had chicken, barley, rice soup the first night home, not a lot, and the next day a couple of soft treats along with the chicken mix then I notice she was eating some of Polo left kibbles. So ended the special feed. She also has a gum infection so anitboitics for a week. Everything is back to normal and she is a drama queen. She just seems to take everything in stride and nothing bothers her. I call her my bullet proof bossy drama queen that rules the house , next to the cat that is.

    Hope Phoenix does as well.

  12. My 2 girls are white and brindle and sun lovers so our vet toldme to get the baby coppertone spray and use that. It works quite well. Tess hasn't had any spots come up since I have been using that. She is really a true sun bather. The vet can also give you some drops for his eyes and it really helps. I don't remember the name because Tess doesn't need it anymore.

  13. You might check the weather forecast because this is exactly the way Polo acts before a storm comes in. In fact about an hour to an hour and a half before it gets her she is shaking and panting and pacing yeah whining also. We finally figured out that it is barametric pressure that bothers her. She does this when we travel in the mountains also. We give her 1 mg of melatonin and she settles right down. You can give up to 3 mgs but we use as little as possible. Just something to think about.

    Hope it helps.

  14. Our Tess has them from time to time on her side along the rib cage. The vet takes them off and so far they have had clean margins and she is fine. We do use baby sun block all summer and that seems to keep them down. She is an all 4 sides sun bather and that has helped a lot. When one appears we just have them removed as soon as we see them and all is well so far. Hope it stays that way. They always send them for testing to be sure we get clean margins.
