  1. Thanks for all the help. I feed Remy in the room he has chosen for his own, he has a bed, against the wall with a good view of the door. (still skittish) The cats take turns laying on the twin bed in the room, he doesn't really enjoy the cats at all, they are very in control of this house, all the dogs know that. Breakfast has become each eats their own food, dinner is the same I hope future issues are as easily solved.

    thanks Greytalk

  2. Thank you all for the suggestions. Remy's bowl will be moved for breakfast tomorrow.

Pete has learned his manners from our Golden Buddy, so I Iike the idea that he wants

    Remy to feel more comfy.

I really don't think Remy is Alpha in any way, well he has marked in the living room, where they both are being fed. one time it was accidental, one time he peed on the cat tower.

  3. Hello Greytalk,

I recently was adopted by a new shy grey named Remy- he lived all his life here in Tucson and a track with a very bad reputation. He is not as skittish as he was 2 months ago. He loves his open fenced back yard we live on an acre and he, like Pete our 1st grey moved in with us Aug 2012, love running zoomies. That took him a couple of weeks to figure out it was allowed. He like to isolate in the bedrooms on a bed all by himself. right now he is here in the living room on the dog bed. yesterday was the first time he mouthed a toy, he didn't get it to squeek, but he touched it and nibbled it. baby steps....

My husban d and i read "help for the shy dog" 'greyhounds for dummies' Having Pete come straight from the adoption kennel and his neuter surgery was simple compared to Remy and his special needs. he had been in a foster home for months, and was skittish jumping up at every move, or noise.

my question is this, Pete who can tell time and knows when breakfast or dinner is late, has been not so interested in his breakfast and he lays down when i put the bowls in their holders. he is allowing Remy to eat all of his breakfast. they get the same 1c & 3/4 plus over cooked white rice and stewed chicken thighs w/water for softening the dry, Kirkland kibble.

Pete is not going to starve I know that, but does anyone have a suggestion as to why he volunteers his breakfast to the new dog?

thanks in advance for any input.

peggy, pete, remy, Buddy, and the 4 cats.

  4. Pete's eye crease has healed with no additional issues. I know it's drier here than most places...and when running and playing in the yard he does kick up a lot of dust. We've cut back on the playing with the Jolly ball for a few days and that has cut back on the amount of eye goobers. Thanks for all the help.

  5. Hello Everyone,

Pete always has eye goobers, sometimes he wipes them off, sometimes I do. Well I wiped one off yesterday and there was pink skin underneath. He has since scratched at this spot and I have taken q-tip with Hydrogen peroxide to it. I cleaned it before bed last night, today he scratched it again and there was a speck of blood. When I cleaned it again just now with the q-tip and HP it fizzed and there was color to the q-tip. I applied a tiny bit of Vaseline to the eye crease after cleaning it to cover the abrasion. Does anyone know if this is the correct way to apply first aid. It's not bleeding, he lets me clean it. it looked better this AM but not when I checked it later this morning. All help and comments appreciated. If it doesn't look improved tomorrow AM I will take him into the Vet. I'm sure with all the Greyt Wisdom here somebody knows exactly what I'm dealing with. Should i cover his dew claw with a wrap or not?

  6. Our new boy Pete loves food. He receives 2c dry Victor's dog food Chicken variety + 1 cup really mushy rice + 2-3T plain Greek yogurt. When he does throw up in the AM it has been things he should not have swallowed, squeekies, ear plugs, pieces of toys, string, tin foil. He was only gassy if I mixed in a food with beef products in it, my Golden is on a different food and one of them will be switching. Pete has become gasious these last couple of days. The only change I have made was to add in a supplement called Missing Link to his food. His stools were really loose when we got him from the kennel directly after his neuter, he also has Giardia, so he was on a second round of Panacur. His stool has firmed up. but usually the first couple of pieces, the rest is still like puddin. He has been with us since Aug 11, and he gotcha date, when we signed the papers was 23 Aug.

  7. Pete has been with us 3 weeks today, 1 week since we signed papers. He came to us almost straight from the track we were the Foster. He has been living with us, 3 people, a golden retriever, and our 4 cats very well He was bullied by the most senior female cat actually. No blood was drawn, but i think he was saved by having on his muzzle, but I have become very relaxed and don't put it on him in the house. Well all has been fine, if i see him staring I call his name and he looks at me, not always a treat handy, but he always get's praised. Today I had rubbed Pete down with his grooming mitt and a damp paper towel, he was relaxing on his bed. The white kitty came over to me for some attention, he has been very scarce for the last 3 weeks, so i haven't been able to give him any loving, so i got the cat grooming brushes and sat on the floor, the regular place for grooming cat coats. well, only a couple of minutes into this Pete snapped angrily at Elwood and got told NO very sternly. here is my question, my husband says Pete did not like the cat getting attention and that is why he acted out. I'm not sure, I think he been really good at holding in his desire to chase a kitty and I tell him many times he's so good for not looking at them, he has gotten nose to nose a few times with Freckles and Jake. Ozzy (boss Cat) will enter a room and Pete looks the other way, or just down at the pillow no eye contact with her at all. . Do you think it was just an attention issue?

We are also have some chewing toys apart and swallowing pieces. I know i need some more indestructable toys. any help is great

Pete has a walk in the morning and a run around the backyard 2 times a day, midmorning and after dinner we try to get him to run around after he' s done with business.

thanks for any replys, comments, suggestions, feedback - thanks
