  1. I have been searching for a dog to adopt after my Buddy passed on in May. I was going to just keep it at 2 but I miss having a 3rd. I put in an app at a local sanctuary after some unsuccessful matches at the local humane society and was matched up with a 5 year old basset mix. Cookie and Mac did a meet n greet and everything went well.

Her history is she was an outside dog that was on an underground day fence collar and started nipping. Not a good situation and I think those systems are the worst anyways. The man brought her in and didn't even realize she had a limp or said he didn't know, anyways. He dropped her off, completely emotionless. They are going to do X-rays to make sure it might just be the Lyme and they have her on a cycle of doxy.

Does anyone have any first hand experience with Lyme or any advice? I'm still waiting for my app approval but I wanted to get some info. I love her so far and hope that it all works out.

  2. Thank you so much everyone. I feel like posting it here is some kind of therapy. I miss him a lot but I know he's in a better place. He went downhill kinda fast so he didn't suffer long but I didn't think I would lose him this soon. He was a rescue. He had broken ribs that healed that way and had no medical treatment for it. They say he was kicked by the woman's spouse or boyfriend who surrendered him. He never held a grudge and lived up to his name. He was a great friend.

  3. Buddy the dachshund was rescued from a bad home situation and I adopted him after seeing him on a pet board a few years ago. I always hope he had some great years with us and his life was full. He had loads of personality and although Cookie wasn't always his biggest fan, they were all "family".

I haven't been able to post this until now. It was very hard, as all beloved pet deaths are.

  4. Cookie exhibits some type of marking behavior, mostly out on walks with my other male dogs. She will squat down only a little and pee just a little bit. She does it quite a few times. It definitely seems like marking. She really doesn't do it at home or even on walks near our house. Just when we go downtown to walk or other events, especially with other dogs.

  5. So today I woke up and happened to look at my oldest dachshund, Buddy and noticed something was wrongwith his eye. I managed to get a Saturday appointment and took him in. The vet couldn't find a scratch. He gave him a doggy neosporin.

I'm glad it wasn't super serious! Did anyone have a similar situation with an eye injury? I'm racking my brain trying to figure out it happened.

  6. I've never really been a big fan of Cesar Milan fan. I had heard enough criticisms in the past about his training methods and probably watched some clips or heard stories from his shows and pretty much wrote him off.

I actually have the NatGeo channel now and I've been able to sit down and watch a whole show. It's not too bad. I can't say that I would necessarily use his methods, but I do like the idea behind some of them. I haven't really seen him "alpha roll" a dog in any of the shows I've watched.

I like the idea of his show- rehabilitating a dog who needs a home and finding the most suitable place for them. I hope it encourages more people to look at shelter/rescue dogs. I like the idea of the "pack" philosophy as well as a couple other concepts he has talked about.

I wondered how the divorce had affected his life. I didn't realize there was a suicide attempt, also. Sounds like he's been through hell and back.

  7. Cookie likes to chatter! She mainly does it if I'm taking her outside, getting ready to feed them, or just got home (on occasion). I think she's pretty much doing it out of anticipating or excitement. Sometimes I bend down close and pat her while she's doing it- it's so neat to hear it.

I've heard Buddy the dachshund chatter. I was surprised to hear it but that doesn't happen often.
