  1. So happy to hear that Soul got a good rest last night. That will go a long way to putting him on the path to recovery. You will make it through this, you're strong enough. Look at what you have already gone through that is now behind you. Things will look up when the man-boob goes down and Soul is more rested.

Keeping you both in my prayers.

  2. You have gotten great suggestions so I have nothing else to add. I agree with everyone who says to remember to be kind to yourself. I know that when Scarlett had SubCu fluids and I saw my beautifl hound with a growth on her, it was all I could do not to scream. It will go away. If Soul has found comfort in the chair, make it his nest. You will get through this together. You are watching him for signs of pain and improvement, and he is watching you to be sure all is well. Trust each other.

I love the idea of sharing a pb& j with him. Or an egg salad sandwich. Anything that is good and soothing for both of you. Even if that is ice-cream. In moderation, my doctors have always told me that ice cream has a great deal of basic nutrients.

Sending lots of prayers and good thoughts for you both.

  3. Have you tried eggnog? It's out now.

It's high calorie and high protein.

But if she likes it, go easy. It is rich.

I was just thinking this. I was even going to send you the recipe for "REAL" eggnog. I don't share that recipe with anyone since it is a family one but for a grey, all rules are cast aside. Let me know if you want it. Oh, and do leave out the bourbon/brandy...except in your glass!

  4. Kinda dark pic... can't tell if the skin's evulsed or not. While it looks bad, it doesn't appear to be something to be freaked out over (not saying you're freaking out... just sayin'). I'm not going to be of much helpin suggesting what to do, cuz, I'd really have to see the booboo to make an assessment.

But, for me... just looking at that pic, I'd take care of it at home and let it heal up on it's own... You'd be amazed at how well these dogs' skin can heal by itself when you keep a wound clean.

I agree with this. I would call the vet though just to aprise them. With Scarlett there was a doberman who played far too hard and tore her open several times on her neck. I would clean the wound, put Bacitracin on it and butterfly bandage it. Since this always happened at night I would end up talking to the vet in the morning. His answer was always that I knew my girl best and to keep it clean, watch it and bring her in if I thought it warranted it. I also found that the cuts that were not stitched, didn't scar the way the stitched cuts did.

When the same dog ripped an 8" opening in her side that went down several levels, then we rushed to the evet. And then I wanted to kill the human who swore her dog didn't do it. Nope, it was the Jack Russel...

  5. Can I ask what might be a dumb question? Does Lexi eat much turkey? I ask because Morgaine had terrible pudding like/mucus poos for several months and I never connected it to the fact that her hot dog treats were turkey or that the turkey that my co-worker always sent home with me from her over-stuffed deli sandwiches. I was talking with a neighbor one night about it when they said that maybe her system couldn't tolerate the turkey, she knew a lot of dogs who couldnt'. I stopped the turkey and within a week, "happy poos" were had. Maybe there is something that is just not agreeing with Lexi and it is so basic that no one has even thought of it.

I learned with Scarlett that rice doesn't work for all dogs. It took a few months to learn that the rice trick didn't work for her. They keep us on our toes.

Sending lots of prayers and good thoughts for Lexi and you.

  6. I am so sorry that Bell and you are going through this. It is heartbreaking to see them not feeling well.

I know that custard used to be used to get nutrients into people, do you think if you made custard and (please don't think I'm crazy here) a little whipped cream with chicken or beef broth in it, that she might eat that? Even egg salad. I know that my girls have always loved egg salad, it has been a last resort on a few occasions.

Sending more prayers and good thoughts your way.
