  1. Yesterday I didn't get a chance to post, sorry for not giving an update. I went to bed early and slept until it was time for work.

It seems Peace was having a reaction to Tramadol. Since she has been taken off it the change is remarkable. She slept last night and almost all of today. She is coming over for cuddles now and even playbows when one of us comes in the door.

Both of the abscesses have stopped draining, she got the second abscess because the first one was healing before the infection had finished draining.

I talked to the skin tissue/surgery department at OSU and they will see her Monday, they also told me that the abscesses on the anal region take longer to heal because of the bacteria in the area. I was very impressed with how accommodating and nice they were to me. I will definitely use them in the future for any issues, I just wish I had known they could of done Peaces surgery.

So things are looking better, she seldom tries to lick the area now, as long as someone is around, we don't even have to use her cone(we bought the comfort cone which I really recommend, I tried making the homemade one but Peace was able to take it off) she looks like she is wearing an Amish bonnet which is very appropriate around here with all our Amish neighbors.

She goes for a recheck again tomorrow.

Can someone explain to me how to post an update to an earlier post?? can't seem to figure that out.

Thanks for everyone well wishes for my girl..I will post a picture soon

I might have missed it in another thread... how did Peace's appointment go at OSU? And how is Peace feeling now?

  2. If you are seriously worried (and it sounds as if you are) do yourself a favour and take her to the trusted vet for a look-see and re-wrap. If it's all okay, then good. If it's not, the trusted vet can do a repair - and will do, no matter if it does mean implied criticism of another vet. You won't have to say a thing, just ask for a quick check and if you like, say it's because you feel so guilty that you have to be sure. ;)

Chances are that if she isn't showing any signs of discomfort and is eating normally and is bright and cheerful, all is well, but there's no need for you to spend the weekend fretting and losing sleep.

    Ditto.

    agreed

  3. Back in the 1980's, we adopted (from a family member) a female, wire fox terrier at age 7. At her first visit with our vet she tested positive for heartworm. Her's was advanced and she was on the treatment for 2 months. I'm happy to report she lived a very happy, fiesty life until age 13. Sending lots of good thoughts for Kacer.

  4. I am sure this has been talked to death but another thread got me thinking.

Do any of you order heartworm/flea prevention meds online?

Any horror stories(particularly first hand accounts)?

    Or success stories?

Any companies in particular to stay away from?

Any recommendations for particularly good companies?

I have seen some people mention they buy from Australia. How does that work? Is there an Aussie company that most people use?

With 3 dogs, we have been looking into a way to cut the costs a little of heartworm meds and flea prevention. As most of you know, the cost is a bit high and the more dogs you get... Anyway, we looked at one site and saw we could save quite a bit going the online route assuming that is safe still for the dogs.

Feel free to pm me or reply here. Just want to do what's best for my babies while still going easy on my check book.

We use petshed.com, no script needed, just order online and pay. We've been using them over a year. We have 5 hounds so we save a grip o' money. Their shipping is very inexpensive and my orders always have arrived within 4 days. Just received my latest order of Nuheart (generic Heartgard) 4 packs of 6 tablets with an expiration date of 2010. Total cost with shipping $87.80. The last time I bought heartworm meds from our vet it was $95 for one pack of 6 tablets. I still have my vet do the heartworm test during their annual visits.

  5. I don't post often but I feel compelled to tell you...

It is because of the rimadyl education you have provided through greytalk that I immediately removed one of my hounds from it when he exhibited some odd symptoms. He's fine. I won't use it ever again unless absolutely necessary and then only with thorough bloodwork before and during. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I am sure that you saved his life. Eliza knows this too.

  6. one of ours slit his ear, it was bleeding profusely...off to the vet, they cleaned/trimmed it sent us home with bandaged ear, next day bleeding profusely again, off to the vet, they cauterized the edges - bleeding stopped, it has healed and the hair has grown in nicely - - - now almost a year later we're still finding blood sprays on the walls/ceilings here and there

  7. The price is up to $47.70. That's bad enough, but the description makes it sound...I don't know...really weird. They recommend it for people who are being neglected or abused. :huh A neglected or abused person would be better off spending their $50 on getting help or getting out rather than making the Young Life Company rich by buying some stinky oil to "release buried emotional trauma." <_<

Their "Thieves" line product information page gave me the creeps, too.

It also doesn't say anything about putting it on dogs. (I know, Rescue Remedy doesn't make any pet claims either, but at least I know there are lots of people who have safely used it on dogs and cats.) Personally, I think I'd go a different route than "Trauma Life" for thunderphobia.

That's what I was thinking when I read it. Since Greytnut had mentioned that they were going to try it, I thought I'd ask about results. Currently, we're using a DAP diffuser with inconclusive results. I've ordered a DAP collar to see if that will help some more.

  8. Trauma Life, by Young Living. It's very expensive (like $46 a bottle!) but supposedly works like magic. You rub a couple drops between your hands, then massage their ears with it and rub the leftover oil off along their spine. I just ordered a bottle and it smells wonderful. Haven't had a chance to use it on Argus yet, so will have to post once we've had a t-storm.

In searching for info about thunderphobia remedies I ran across this.

GreytNut, did you use it? What were the results?

I know this was a year ago but I was wondering about the outcome.

Apologizing in advane, if you posted this information in another thread, I was unable to find it.

    Thanks
