  1. Oh WOW! Thanks! :D Doggies allowed at all these places?

Unfortunately not. Dogs are allowed at the participating wineries and at the Taughannock Falls. Dogs are left at the cabin for all else. After a few hours touring wineries, our hounds usually appreciate a break.

If you don't want to leave your dog alone, they usually offer babysitting services at the host winery in the Grapehounds tent.

I am SO excited - I have a cabin booked! No idea which number, he wouldn't tell me, but will send confirmation in the mail. Arrive July 25 (wed) depart Sunday. I haven't confirmed with DH but frankly, I'm going on my own with the girls if he can't/won't go. :pepper (And that's not an uh-oh, our marriage is in trouble - it's just that we talk about doing stuff like this all the time, then don't plan the time and don't get around to it. So, I'm taking the reins).

Woo-Hoo!!! You also got to experience the archaic reservation system at the Lodge. There are plenty of other places to stay, but the Lodge is close to the wineries, cheap and has a good restaurant/bar onsite.

  2. 'Tis the season to book reservations at Seneca Lodge in Watkins Glen for Grapehounds 2018. After marathon phone calls (Seneca Lodge doesn't do online reservations), I know several of us got cabins.

We'll be in our usual Cabin 85. Arriving Monday, July 23 and leaving Monday, July 30.

I'll let those of you on GreyTalk respond with your cabins. I know a couple of folks not on GreyTalk and will share theirs.

  3. How will this impact the Saturday night gathering which is typically held in the Expo Center?

We're about 1.5 hours from Gettysburg, but come Friday and leave Sunday. We have plenty of time to get our shopping in on Friday/Saturday. I can see the value for day trippers, but even when I was one, I wanted to get there early to get the best selection.

  4. When I said, what does it matter, I meant that we didn't do a necropsy. They were gone, we couldn't bring them back and both times the vets offered their opinions. I saw the tubes of blood they drew from their abdomen; there was no going back. These sudden loses rip you apart. You have no preparation and the dog can be of any age. One of mine was only 7. Again, I am more than sorry for your loss.

Irene, I wasn't questioning your sincerity at all. I know *exactly* what you went through with hemangiosarcoma and how quickly things happen. We didn't do a necropsy either. Our vet showed us the ultrasound and was the one that advised us it was best to let her go. Its heartbreaking to bring a dog into the vet hoping to make them better and leave without them. We lost our galgo Beatrix six weeks before Celeste to osteosarcoma. We were better prepared for that.

  5. I've lost two to hemangiosarcoma of the spleen or liver in a similar sudden end. Both were fine in the morning and gone by day's end. Actually, what does it matter. They are gone.

Same here. We took our Celeste in for bloodwork, followed by an ultrasound. She had been doing great just a few days before. We had to let her go the same day. It was very sudden.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

  6. I'm so excited for Dewey! We stay at a cottage in Dewey Beach and I'm hoping for at least one day of perfect weather, with no golden retrievers, to just lay on the beach with my girl all day long! :)

winnie, I'm so excited you are coming - you will love it!!

I promise I won't think you're a stalker either. :lol Looking forward to seeing everyone and maybe some new folks we haven't met yet. We're regulars at GIG and Grapehounds, but this is a new event for us.

  7. Thanks. i did go to the site, but nothing specifically said that hounds were allowed in establishments (usually frowned upon where anything consumable is made/served).

The Grapehounds organizers won't include any establishment that isn't dog friendly. If dogs are only allowed in certain areas, they will say that (although its very rare). It's a very dog friendly event.

  8. Well, blood work came back and all is normal. We will redo the urinalysis with a first morning sample since the initial test was done with a late afternoon sample. Rhythm is one cool dude - so laid back. I'd be surprised if this was anxiety driven. However, we have noticed that he seems to pee in the belly band in the time between one of us arriving home and taking him out for his walk. Excitement pee, I guess you can call it.

I do have one positive update to share... he made it from 10 p.m. until 7 a.m. this morning without a single accident!!! We returned from our evening walk and he wanted to go right to bed. DH normally falls asleep on the couch watching TV and then walks Rhythm when he wakes up - sometime between 1-3 a.m. He came up to get Rhythm early this morning, as usual, but he would *not* budge from his bed. I was totally expecting an accident this morning when I got up, but he managed to hold it until our normal morning walk at 7 a.m. Of course, he still peed numerous times on our walk, but I don't care about that as long as its not inside the house.
