or he could have a neck issue ... watch for any reluctance to turn head (which can sometimes show up as "not interested in food" because they don't want to bend down). Any unusual exercise with these swings in weather (maybe a zoomie-gone-bad)?

So glad that he's recovering well. His mouth has probably been hurting him for awhile, and I bet that he'll love having that irritation gone forever!

So many of us share the pain you're experiencing, and the decision is so hard. Saying goodbye will not lessen the pain in your heart, but it WILL take away Nattie's pain.
Since osteo damages the bones, please know that the slightest thing can take the decision out of your hands. I've unfortunately been in the room when a sick hound broke a leg by taking a step backwards, and when another hound injured herself by slipping when she was climbing up a stair.
Our prayers and heartfelt sympathy is with you and Nattie.

if you think she's cold and this is a newer event, try a VERY lightweight and not-terribly-warm throw as a test. big enough to cover her, but small enough that she doesnt get wrapped and trapped (think baby basinette size). And since fleece doesn't fray, you could buy a small amount of fleece on sale (the thinner the better), and try that before spending money on jammies.
<mine all hated jammies except for a lovely simple jacket that I received as a secret santa gift -- it was a knit rather than fleece, so minimal static>
And I LOVE chattering greys ... Riley was the king!

Yes you can give tramadol with an Nsaid (including Aspirin). Try 1 tablet (50 mg) every 8 hours and reach out to your vet in the morning.

YES. I'm used to vets prescribing Rimadyl, Deramax or Metacam (all NSAIDs) for pain ... each of those tend to take a couple days to build up in the dog's system before they're working at full effectiveness. Not familiar with using aspirin. Let the vet know ... there are other things (like Tramadol) that can be used in conjunction with an NSAID for acute pain.

Such good news for Jane ... what a great life these past 12 weeks have been for her. She's so lucky to have found you, and I know from your posts that she returns the gift to your life.

Glad to hear that there may be something besides sensitive tummy (which I've finally managed to tame in my boy after more than 10 years ... by cutting BEEF out of his diet).

Luka ...thank you for giving me a lifelong friend (my dear, dear friend, Janice). You shared your couch with Baby, even when she took the middle. You shared your cookies with RIley. Nothing fazed you ... not squawking birds, or chasing dogs, or squirrels or rabbits or skunks. You enjoyed every moment of your life with momma and the special chaos that made up your happy home.
We will all miss you, and I know you're watching over your momma (with Peace, and Scout and Rose). I'm so glad that you didn't suffer through a long illness, but we all miss you so very much.

fwiw, Dentastix haven't come into my home in years ... 3 of my 4 previous hounds would not digest them well. Hoping for a simple problem that can be solved with minor diet changes

or trade kibble with someone else ... we all have know someone with a hound like yours (if you only lived closer ...). I always mix 3-4 kibble brands together, including brands that my dearest friends use with their hounds. not only does it make the kibble more interesting (I pretend they get to find the marshmallows in Lucky Charms), my hounds could snack at my friends' houses without having tummy issues from the change in diet.
Sorry ... that didn't answer your 'freeze the kibble' question.

If its not too deep, I would just use vetricyn and a drop of Copaiba essential oil (which has some numbing properties) and let it air dry. Then if hound still wants to lick, i use a muzzle with stool guard. good luck!

Welcome to Greytalk, and thank you for taking the time and energy to work with this pup.
I hope when you adopted Marco, you were given a muzzle. Please use it! He should be used to it (even if he doesn't like it), and can eat and drink with the muzzle on. I wouldn't leave him in a crate with the muzzle on (so he doesn't get caught), but that's not the setup that you described. If your dog walker feels comfortable (and you give permission) s/he can take the muzzle off when s/he leaves from the last potty break.

My (now angel) Baby had a series of seizures when she was about 9 ... she would have a seizure about once every 3 months. My local vet recommended 'watch them until they become regular & more frequent'. She never progressed further (she had about 6 seizures total), but did have a mini-stroke (on our way from Chicago to Louisville for their greyhound event a few years ago -- the local community was outstanding to help me find greyhound savvy evets and support while out of town).
Baby passed away last year from an unrelated tumor.
