  1. Shanti

My ultimate heart dog, diva, Princess, primadonna and occasional PITA. ;)

My heart is utterly shattered as I let my girl go to rainbow bridge yesterday. Her body just gave out on her. Not fair. We got Shanti December 8, 2006. We picked her up from her spay surgery and brought her home. She immediately peed in my ex's car. Even funnier now. ;) She came into our house and was the queen. We were her humble servants. Lol! She was a snuggle bug when possible. If you laid on the floor she came running to spoon with you. She is the only dog I've known to purr when she was happy. It was the cutest thing. She would always throw her head between your knees for neck scratches and loving. If you were sitting near her, you were demanded to hold her paw with your hand. She was a sassy one!!!

She was not small animal safe. She reminded me of that with a few gifts she left me on my seat. Rat and a opposum on my couch. Awesome, thanks girl! :( guessing everyone heard me scream on those when I found them. Ha! She got a few birds too. Sorry critters!

She had a lot of health issues we were battling. We didn't think she would live past 3. Lots of specialist and 11 1/2 years later she succumbed to the health problems. Certainly not without fighting back for all she was worth.

She brought so much joy to my life. I am forever grateful for her introducing me into the world of greyhounds and the wonderful people here. I came to GT searching for help on a few "issues". ;) We got through them all and I've gained some amazing friends. I owe her so much for that!

Nothing will ever replace the hole she left me with, but we will see each other again. Until then sweet Shanti... I love you dearly!!!!!

  2. Miss Asti goes in Monday for surgery. TPLO is the best option for my moose girl. I have to travel on Monday too. :( She will stay in the vet hospital till Friday. I'm petrified about getting her home. Just getting her in and out of the car. I have an xpen, orthopedic bed, pads, sling and painkillers ready.

I hope and pray she does well and the other joints hold. I'm afraid a front joint is compromised already.

Monday morning at 7:30 she has to be there.

  3. Her surgery is scheduled for June 8. This surgeon does all 3 procedures regularly and a lot of experience doing them all. I am comfortable with him doing my girl. Final decision on type will be when he evaluated her personally.

All I can do is hope and pray she does well with the surgery needed. I can't leave it as is. :(

  4. Post-op cold laser therapy may speed up healing. Is that included in your surgical estimate?

Don't think so. Playing phone tag with vet to go into more detail on it.

If you do the new surgery, there is a good chance she will blow out the other leg. Look around for a good vet that does the old surgery. Price is better and the it's just as good.

Old surgery meaning TTA, tibial tuberocity?

Ok, a little humor in this. As I read up from "Google university" as I call it, one problem states:

"Pet owners are financially unstable after the surgery".

    Ya think?!?!? Lol!!!!!!

  5. Well sadly my Australian Shepard tore her ACL and it requires surgical repair. That estimate was $4000.

Does anyone have experience with this?

    What do I expect?

Is that a reasonable estimate on a 83 pound dog?

    What's the recovery like?

Any insight to what's in store for me and Asti would be appreciated! I was told I need to get her in within 2-3 weeks before changes start that make it worse and she blows out her other one compensating for the blown one. :(

  6. I spent 4 hours at allergist yesterday. Have had issues last couple months. Tested positive in January for dogs and cats, but negative on yesterdays tests. I'm currently on Zantac with Zyrtec in am and another Zantac with Allegra in pm. I have steroids too due to a severe reaction Thursday. Allergist said wipe down animals at least 1x a week with allerpet wipes, use hepa filter and keep animals out of your main space for you if possible.

I HATE all the drugs! Weight gain is a common side effect and it sucks!!!!!! But I'm not willing to look like will smith in hitch or rehome my animals.

I feel your pain! Hope you find a tolerable solution for you:
