Vet with LSS Experience in Northern California

Recommended Posts

Hello

We have a senior (12.5 years old) male greyhound who has started to show some signs of rear end weakness especially in the last year. We’ve had x-rays done and only some small areas of arthritis have been observed. The last few days he’s started to stick his tail straight out sometimes after getting up (almost like he’s trying to use the bathroom). Nothing comes out and he’ll be fine in 30 seconds, but he also appears to be trying to self groom his rear end more often. His bathrooms appear to be ok and other than taking a few seconds longer to get comfortable in a squat, he seems ok. The back legs are slightly more unsteady than his-older-age “normal” but not terrible. He’s been eating slightly less than normal (but has been a very picky eater for the last 5 years and has never been a food motivated pup).

Based on some searches here, it seems like LSS (http://www.greythealth.com/lumbosacral.html) might be an explanation. Does anyone have any recommendations of a veterinarian in Northern California that has experience with this? We have had zero complaints about our normal vet, but wasn’t sure if anyone here could recommend one with experience diagnosing/treating greyhounds with this.

I’m a new account, but a long time visitor. Thanks for the years of tips and advice.
