Predicting Osteo Aggressiveness Via Genotyping

Recommended Posts

I don't remember if I ever posted this link. It is very technical. Essentially they appear to have discovered a gene pattern that indicates the aggressiveness of the osteosarcoma. I think this was published about a year ago by University of Minnesota. Dr Kisselberth of OSU was also involved in the research.

I spoke with Dr. Couto about this a few months ago. There is follow on research being done. The shorter term hope is that this will help determine the effectiveness of various current treatments for the individual dog. For example, will amputation and chemo likely give 6 months or two years? The long term hope is that more effective (gene based therapy) treatments will ultimately result from this research.
