I have not always liked you but I would never want you to bear the burden of guilt along with the terrible loss. It was time for them to go; they will blaze the trail ahead and leave us here until we finally get it right; and then we can look for their light to lead us home. Though some are lucky enough to have dogs until 15, 16 or so, at this point in time the overwhelming majority of us will lose our dogs to as was just said, "the relenless persistence of time," at an age between 11-14. My Luke was 13.5 yo when he left us last year in a manner very, very similar to what you stated. And I had a 10 yo dog go in a similar way. Luke's was almost assuredly cancer but I did not do a necropsy. However I did for my 10 yo, Sugar Girl. She died of hemangiosarcoma & by the time the first symptoms appeared it was already too late to save her. The cancer had spread. I am so sorry about your True.
