Guest gomiesmom
Our 2 ( almost 3 yr ) old boy had a dental last Friday and now he is coughing slightly, just once, after drinking water. He is on Doxy and we are weaning off of prednazone -- bad bruising after pre dental blood draw. We have done lots of blood testing to try to get to the bottom of the severe bruising and are in fact still waiting on some results. Any thoughts..... on the coughing? Could it be aspiration pneumonia I have read about? Could it be either drug he is on? We've only had a grey since 2/07 and this is his 1st dental, although our older min collies have been through multiple dentals..... I know greys are different in so many ways, to say the least. How could you tell if it was pneumonia..Xrays? Thanks!
Ragsysmum
Never seen a dental done but wouldn't they have to intubate him for the anaesthetic? Maybe his throat got a little bruised or scratched from that and it is causing discomfort when he drinks. Quote Sue from England

Maybe his throat got a little bruised or scratched from that and it is causing discomfort when he drinks. If it's just slight coughing, it's most likely a little irritation. 'Course you'll want to keep tabs on it and check with the vet if it gets any worse -- hope not, tho. ETA: Joseph had bad bruising from his first 2-3 blood draws after retirement, too. We did all the tests and found nothing, and it didn't happen again. Couldn't believe how little bruising he had even from major abdominal surgery (from eating a toy, the booger). Hope all turns out as well for your pup, too! Guest Greyhoundbaby
Could be bruising...since it's Saturday, I'd monitor over the weekend but call the vet first thing Monday if it's peristing. Believe it or not, you can give him some chamomile tea to sooth his throat. Tapsy caught a cold one year after a wet Dewey and the vet prescribed the tea! (It worked too)
