  1. Callie just had a toe amputated a week ago today. The vet removed it all the way at the top, where it attached to her foot. He told me he did this since the stub would "flop around and irrate her" if he only removed the first joint.
  2. Callie is home. She seems happy to be here. Had a nice drink of water, did some potty business and is sleeping soundly. The vet thought she was having some pain, but knowing how she hates to crate, she may have just been fussing. She hasn't been whining or anything so we're keeping our fingers crossed for a smooth healing process. She goes back to the vet on Monday for a bandage change.
  3. Thanks, Everyone, for the well wishes. I spoke with my vet and Callie did well during surgery. He removed her entire toe and she'll be spending the night there. I'll be able to get her tomorrow. Thanks again. I'm sure my Boo will be back to her old happy self in no time!
  4. I was wondering what her infection looks like. Rocky had a problem with his toe nail. It became very large and crusty looking. The vet did not think that it was a fungus. He had told me that he could amputate his toe and send it in to the lab. I chose not to have it amputated because of Rocky's age and his health. It seemed to bother him most if my other guys would step on it. Last weekend, the nail "exploded" leaving the nail along with his first knuckle hanging by a thread. It was awful. Dr. Eli snipped it off, and Rocky seems to being doing very well considering his other issues. It sounds like you are doing the right thing for Callie. In hindsight, if I would have known then what I know now, I would have had the surgery. I will keep Callie in my thoughts and prayers. Best wishes Thanks. Her quick is mottled brown, instead of pink (she's got white nails) and the nail itself is kind of split and peeling. When he saw her last week, he x-rayed the toe and the infection wasn't in the bone as he feared, but her toe was enflamed. Today, her quick is so swollen, it looks like it is going to burst through her nail. Truly, with all of her discomfort and lack of resolution from the meds, I think the surgery is the best bet as this has been getting progressively worse for a couple of months now.
  5. My poor baby girl has been suffering from a fungal infection in her toe for a while now. The meds haven't helped and she is really bothered by it. She's at the point where she is holding up her foot and doing a lot of whining. So, tomorrow, we're going to have the last joint of her toe taken off. She should feel a lot better and we'll miss it more than she will. So, please think good thoughts for my pretty girl.

I just got your e-mail. I'm so sorry.
  7. Callie is a fawn with naked thighs and tummy. We use Coppertone waterbabies on her to keep her from getting burned. It's funny, today is the first pretty good day we've had and DH found her sunny and came into the house asking for her sun screen.
  8. HIlda, I'm just now seeing this. I'm so sorry.
  9. Hilda, I'm so sorry. I'm just seeing this now.
  10. I'm sure it will look great on you!
  11. I got Dalys and her littermate Dillys when I got my first apartment. We lost Dillys when she was about 4, but Dalys has been with me for nearly my entire adult life. She's been through my first marriage, divorce, remarriage, and everything in between with me. She would have been 18 next month and I helped her cross the bridge today. Knowing what is the right thing to do never makes it easier. OUr house will be much quieter now without her vocalizing.
  12. When we first got Callie, she was waking us up every night. We'd let her out and sometimes she'd do some business, and sometimes not. It finally dawned on us that she wanted the treat that they get when they come in. We started giving them a bedtime snack (usually some leftover waffles or a bite or two of a pancaek) and she started sleeping through. Good luck!

  15. The postman just delivered an especially yummy package for Butler full of Simply Treats goodies!! We've already tried the cookies and are saving the cake. Butler was kind enough to share, and even one of the cats had a bite! There's also a bunch of chocolate for ME!! Butler has never met a treat he didn't like and he sends a big fat "THANK YOU" to the Greytspuds! Merry Christmas, Robin, Argus, Butler, Callie, and the cats Dalys & Aiden
  16. We use a bite-not collar and the dogs like it MUCH better than an e-collar.
  17. Just catching up on this thread now, Hilda. Keeping our fingers and paws crossed for a good lab report.
  18. Enjoy the treats, Ember! Merry Christmas!! Robin, Argus, Butler, and Callie.
  19. Over the past few weeks, some lovely things have arrived at the house with no notes or explanation! First, yummy chocolate in the shape of a greyhound, then some lovely bully stix, and now some Greyhound cards! All have come with a SS note, but no indication of the giver, but I wanted to let who ever is sending these things, Thank you!!
